I would like to power my RTi12, no biamp, using an adcom amp.
I would like to buy an used one: GFA555II or GFA5500. Not considering the pice, are they equivalent or one model is better than the other for the RTi12? Thank you.

The newer Adcom series is much better IMO than the older one. The first series, (555, 545, 535, etc.) while not bad was somewhat bright sounding, while the newer series with the 5500, 5400, etc. is much more nuetral Mosfet amps.

The trick is to find one used made in the mid to late 90s here in the US instead of a newer one which is now made in China.

If you could swing it, I'd suggest a 200 watt 5500 for the tweets/mids, and the 300 watt Adcom 5800 for the woofers on the 12s in a biamp configuration. That would really be a kick **** set up for the $$!

I got the 5500 on ebay. Is it worth now to try to biamp the RTi12 using the HK AVR630 for the tweets/mids? Would it be OK and would I get some quality improvement?

If in the future I get the 5800 (250w), would I improve the quality of the sound rather than just the power?

    thank you

yes, put the receiver on the top post, amp on bottom.

Adcom has loads of power, let it push the subwoofers.

Also, I disagree with BS about the old Adcom series...great amps regardless...

    Well there's a freakin' surprise!

I didn't say that the old series was bad per say, but when compared to the new, they come up decidely short. Not only have I heard both, I have both, and the old 535 is not even being used right now.

Robdel, if you get the 5802 at 300 watts per for the bass and move the 5500 to the tweets/mids, you would definitely notice a dramactic difference.

Difference in the sound quality? (I'm not interested to listen at a louder volume). thanks

That is good, before I decide to upgrade. I'm not an expert and I thought there were a lot of complicated things (for me) to consider to biamp combining such different sources of power as the AVR630 and the 5500.
