Bail on home theater

Massive fail here. Wife could care less. The Polks became
nicnac shelves. I seldom watch movies and she never used
the system. I sold off my Polk bookies years ago.
So in preparing to move early next year, it's got to go.
I might go with a sound bar if I need move than the TV can
supply. At this point 2 channel only going forward.
And she's nagging the cr@p out of me about that as well.
She want's to turn that back into a bedroom for guests.
(what guests??). I sure as heck don't need her relatives visiting.
They might never leave.

Never have a guest room. EVER!

If the in-laws want to visit offer to shell out for a mid level hotel for them. And when it's time for a family dinner go to a restaurant. That way when dinner is over. It's over.

Funny, I dropped the center channel to focus more on 2 channel. Still have some Polk surrounds in the mix but they rarely get used as movie watching has taken a back seat to 2 channel these days.

I'm still a number of years away from the retirement fight with my wife? lol The downsizing chess match that will occur. What should go? A vast personal library, or the various speakers, amps, sources, etc.? Or....? Or...? Not looking forward to it.

That said. I have to agree that though you can get a decent movie experience from something like SDAs! With newer and newer dynamic surround formats and calibration it's a shame not to have a separate HT system-it does NOT have to be TOTL because the processing really does some rather impressive things with most acceptable speakers. SUBS? Yeah, you can go crazy there if you want. BUT, the wife won't like that and won't want to hear multiple 1000+ watt subs and 120 db levels of sub bass. lol

I'm pretty happy with what I run for HT. And continue to think about upgrades or changes to two channel systems. I never tire of quoting Doro here: "HT sound is easy, it's two channel that's hard"! (I'm paraphrasing, apologies to Doro on my rendering, but he is right as far as I am concerned).

However, for those who use ONE system for both. Yes, HT bypass to separates and primo speakers UP FRONT can make for a great combo. But, that will COST you!

The 2 channel will NEVER be tied to movies.
I had my stereo in the family room for years.
And it never was turned on.
That's not going to happen again.
If movies need more zip, then a sound bar is going in.
My goal is downsize. And HT isn't that important.

My 2 channel system trumps my theater any day. The theater is pretty dam amazing for movies, better than the imax. Music is ok. My dedicated 2 channel system gets a lot more use, friends come over and music comes on, and stays on for hours on end. It gets at least 4 hours of use a day, on weekends if we are home it gets 10. I love it, and always dream of my next speakers.
    2 channel:
Bryston 4B3, Bryston BDA3, Cary SLP05, Shanling CDT1000SE with parts conneXion level 2 mods, Nottingham analogue ace space 294, soundsmith Carmen MKii, Zu DL103 MKii, Ortofon MC 20 MKii, Dynavector XX2 MKii, Rogue Audio Ares, Core power technologies balanced power conditioner, Akiko Corelli power conditioner with Akiko Audio HQ power cable, Nordost heimdall 2, Frey 2, interconnects, speaker and power cables, Focal Electra 1028 BE 2, Auralic Aries Femto, Black diamond racing cones, ingress audio level 1 roller blocks, JL Audio E110 with Auralic subdude, Primacoustics room treatments.
    Theater:
