If using power amp does the AV receiver really matter?

Hello,
i am currently using the pre-outs of a Sony STR DA4600 ES for my AV receiver. the main fronts (Lsi25's) are driven by a Carver Sunfire. the rear surrounds and center channel are driven by an Anthem PVA. My question is... since i am using the pre outs with power amps does the AV i use really affect the sound? Movie sound tracks are fantastic and 2 channel direct is decent. someone locally is selling a Pioneer SC75 for $600 and i am considering buying.
Would it make any difference?
Thanks for input.

May make some, but ideally a separate 2 channel pre would give you the bigger boost in SQ. One with a HT pass thru preferably.
When using one system for both HT/Music, one wants the best receiver one can afford. I would take the Pioneer over the Sony but that's just my preference.HT SYSTEM-
Sony 850c 4k
Pioneer elite vhx 21
Sony 4k BRP
SVS SB-2000
Polk Sig. 20's
Polk FX500 surrounds
Cables-
Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable
Kitchen
Sonos zp90
Grant Fidelity tube dac
B&k 1420

I'd only buy a new receiver for newer features like better auto calibration or the latest audio/video processing technology or HDMI compatibility. The DA4600ES is a few years old, but is otherwise a very good receiver and is still up to date for most purposes.

The Sony ES line used to be a step up of the Sony line, not sure if is still there anymore. That being said, I would still take the Pioneer Elite SC-75 over the DA4600ES

Get yourself a nice integra 80.2 ht preamp for $850 and it will sound great with your amp and its good for music. Buy a stello us usb to coax and then you got a nice jitter free dac for 2 channel.

I am a classic muscle car owner and enthusiast. I had a novice ask me what book or books he should read to prepare him for his restoration? I told him the most important book is the checkbook. I am finding audio is no different.Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel…….Samuel Johnson

That's about right. When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Since I have always put 2-ch audio quality way ahead of multi-ch HT, I purchased the stripped down Marantz NR1504 since it focuses more on sound quality and not so much on all of the HT go-fasters.
My brother and I both had gone through a bunch of big Denon, Yamaha, Sony ES and Onkyo HT receivers over the past few years, and this little Marantz blows them all away as far as 2-ch quality is concerned. And yes, they were all used as just preamps in 2-ch mode.
So yes, the receiver DOES make a difference, even if you just use it as a preamp.
