Can DVD players play Blu-Ray discs?

I'd like to know if regular DVD players can play Blu-Ray discs without my having to purchase a separate Blu-Ray player.

No, but a BR player will play DVDs.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
