New Reciever Suggestions?

So i currently have an Onkyo 702, unfortunately it does not have HDMI which I want in a reciever as i have numerous devices that can pass video and audio through HDMI. Any recommendations, equal quality of better. Current reciever has no issues just lacks HDMI. He is my current list of equipment. Theater is set up for 6.1, should i convert to 7.1 since that seems to be the standard or stay with the same?

Go with a Pioneer SC model. Just to throw this out there, Pioneer seems to be discontinuing their non-Elite SC models. Onkyo 929 would probably work,if you want to stay with that brand. Factory refurb available at accessories4less or Amazon for under $1k.

I would suggest 7.1 as I was impressed with the additional audio detail I heard going from 5.1 to 7.1. Marantz is good and some models (as do other manufacturers do I suspect) have dual HDMI monitor out if you have a need for that.Polk Monitor 10

Jeremie, a real bargain in an excellent receiver with the top Audyssey MultEQ XT32, is the Onkyo 818 available at Accessories4less here for about $600 shipped. This is a factory refurbished unit which should be at least as reliable as a brand new one.
As to whether to use two surround speakers in back for a 7.1 setup, yes using a mode such as DPLIIx different signals are sent to each of the back surrounds to give a more complete back left and back right surround effect. -

Now I am second guessing and thinking of getting the yamaha 3020 for 9.1 as I want to do the extra speakers up front.
