This isn't a question about which sounds better but why vintage speakers, Polk included, used NPE's and not film cap's.was it price, best available at the time, a design consideration. There has been and continue to be serious flame wars over which is better I just want to know why they where used to begin with.

For "A" holes to appear as if by magic mention Speaker wire and interconnects, For a jihad say
"zip-cord". But for Utter annihilation mention psychoacoustics.

There's the reason you'll not get an answer here.

Someone else may be able to explain it better or different, but here is how I understand NP's.

They are made up with a convential electrolytic turned each direction inside that single package. So one is turned correctly for the waveform while it's above zero and then the other when it's below zero. However, it's that zero area where there is trouble, as it's not possible for them to be perfect as they go to zero.

Where the NP becomes attractive is the size and cost for the capacity storage required.

You took that advice wisely; there are few here that know more than him.
