Subwoofer Advice Requested

I have Polk RTi A5 front speakers with a DSW 440 sub. The sound is nice but sometimes i feel the bass is a little thin. I am not looking for wall shaking, just more presence. At first, I thought about getting a DSW 660 as that is one of the 3 recommended subs on the Polk web site. But I am also wondering if it would be better to get a second 440 instead?

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Brad

You could go with a second 440 but it won't play lower. Would it be possible to use a 440 with a 660? Set the 440 up do do the mid bass and the 660 to handle the low stuff.

What's your max budget? There's several options available that can give you the bass you're looking for.

It is all about the diameter/size and how much of the air in the room is moved by the subwoofer.
Get 15" Velodyne EQ-Max 15 Inch Subwoofer or two, after returning your current DSW 440 sub, man.
It will do your system Good!
    A very friendly advise.

Running the same combo here. After a whole lot of searching, decided on SVS PB-12 NSD. May want to give it a look.

I'd personally check out the HSU vtf-15 for one of the best subs under $1k. Epik makes good stuff too but have been sold out. I'd take HSU over SVS unless you go up to the PB12+ which is more than your budget.

Nice advice here, we all need to remember that Epik is going the ways of eD... Or at least it seems that way.

Yeah learned my lesson there, still happy as hell with my ED sub and would have recommended it in a heartbeat otherwise. It's a shame.

All I can say is with that budget do NOT buy a polk sub. They make great speakers, but the subs still just can't compete with the ID boys as far as bang for the buck goes.

I love my HSU and second that recommendation. I would buy this http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk4.html and save the rest of the cash for something else. It will DESTROY what you have now, but is still very tight, controlled, and musical.

I would insure your sub placement is optimal. Is your sub between your speakers, to the left or right of them up or in a corner? Move them around a bit and see if any differences arise. If you place the sub in a corner try having it close to the wall then gradually move it out a bit each time.

Also, play with the hertz setting with different types of movies and music. Consider a setting it between 50-80hz vs moving to 30 or upto to 125/150/180 ect..

This is my limited knowledge suggestion.... So take it for what it is.... lol.

Also, don't forget about craigslist. Too bad you are not closer to Seattle, there seems to be a lot of gear for sale in that area. Several HSU, SVS, Rhythmik subs on there.

Wasn't Clint Eastwood the Mayor of Carmel if my memory serves me correct.
