D.I.Y. speaker cables

I've been using extension cords braided together 3(2 wires from each) on my rt800i 's, i just learned that you can use coax??? is this any better that what i have goin'? if so how do i do it ...braiding and conecting it together?:confused:
Does anybody have any other idea's?

    Lamp cord. Available at your favorite home improvement store. Comes in 12-18 gauge in spools of 200' or so. Choice of brown or white :)

    I will be making UByte-2 speaker cables for my Rotel amp to LSi9 and LSiC speakers. These will replace the 12 awg cable currently used.

    Will post results when cables are complete. Materials are in transit and will be assembled on arrival (date??).
