in the process of putting a 2 channel together, i was looking to get some 7' but someone else suggested some 15's, as i have already ordered a pair of psw 505's i figure lsi 15's would be overkill, but that the 9's with some stands might suit my needs better, but i want to know, are the 9's enough better than the 7's to hunt them down and get them, i have a while to buy them, as i will be having all of it shipped to my dads house back home, i have ordered so far, two polk psw 505's, and a harman kardon 3490 recieiver, any suggestions are welcome, and im trying to kepp it under 600 if possible

I would say with the 3490 (great piece btw)...you would get the most out of the 7's. Especially since you'll be running them with subs.

I feel the 9's are a better option. Their no harder to drive than the 7's so same receiver will work just as well for either. The 7's are great speakers but for a little more, I feel the 9's extra mid helps make it a seem less transition between highs and mids. Also, the midbass punch is definitely better with a dedicated driver just for it. I vote 9's but I'm biased... *see sig*

And unless you live near a Fry's, don't get your hopes up. I tried calling to get a deal others mentioned on here but they acted like they had no idea what I was saying.

If you get the 9s, you will either need a better amp than the 3490, or you will need to mod the crossovers. With the 7s, they will sound good stock with your amp. Also, modding the crossovers on the 9s is about twice the cost in parts compared to the 7s. Either way, given that you have a sub to fill in the low end, you cannot go wrong. Best of luck.

If youre interested in the 7's, I have a pair in Cherry in Like New condition, I already had the crossovers modded (upgraded) That I can send your way for $375. The crossover have a little more than 100 hrs on them. The upgraded crossovers cost me $200 alone. I have too many speakers and have to lets some go. I also have an older Ebony pair of 7's that I will keep. PM me if interested

wow that's a fantastic offer not to be missed but for me the shipping cost would kill me. I second the lsi 7s with subs but it also depends largely on your room si~size and set up.

i have no idea what room size will be, but it will either be a zune hd dock input through optical, or my laptop though DAC to coax, and an HK 3490 running two PSW 505 subs

LSi 9s are MUCH MORE difficult to drive than the LSi-7s. That HK won't handle the 9s properly! I also find the 7s while they give up some low end are generally the better speaker unless you go with the mods on the 9s. But that's me.

And frankly, I never much liked the way the 7s sounded on my HK 3490. They were much more articulate with better bass on a 50 watt x 2 NAD integrated. And even better in their current set up with the separates below and an 80 watt x 2 NAD power amp.

    Nice offer above, though!

Many of the more seasoned members here generally seem to like the 7s better than 9s. I have never heard the 7s, but I have the 9s running on a fairly decent NAD amp (100wpc). I can tell you it has been a challenge to dial in the mid bass and low end on these speakers. It seems like if you set the crossover too low they dig too deep and get a little boomy. But if I bump it up they don't seem to dig deep enough. My room acoustics are pretty bad, which impacts the sound but I also feel like maybe that's what the suggested crossover upgrade is about as well. Anyway, given that you have 2x12in subs to complement your speakers, I don't see the need for 9s at all. The only way I'd suggest 9s over 7s is if you didn't have a sub. The 9s really do a good enough job on their own for most stuff, especially music.
