New Emotiva XPR-2... 2 channel, 600 watts into 8 ohms, 1000 watts into 4 ohms

http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/xpr2
One thing I noticed right away is they dropped the gain from 32 db (like on the XPA-2) down to 29 db. That's in-line with other amps, and has been a major source of criticism for many.
I wish they'd switch from the LED meter levels to VU meters though. That would make them look a lot better... but looks are secondary, imo.
So, who's ordering one and reporting back to the group?
(I'm sure a lot of people already think it "sucks" and is "entry level"...)

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The $1500 price tag for the amp may be fine. The cost of getting a dedicated circuit to were you would place the amp, could end up to be a LOT more then the cost of the amp itself.
Very few houses have a dedicated 20 amp outlet sitting around doing nothing. You would need a "licensed" electrician. Hopefully you have an open position in you circuit breaker box...If NOT..then you'd need a new panel in there. It could easy cost you 3K, just to get the circuit to were you need it, depending on how old your house is and were the outlet needs to be.
It may be a nice amp, but the fact they State they want a "dedicated" 20 amp circuit....would send me running in the other direction.
Back bone of any ones system is the most important part.
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.

Yes a dedicated line for your GEAR is for sure great....but not the case here. So you would need a whole other line to run everything else......Except the power amp.
+1, Iv'e learned in the last 3yrs it starts at the wall with a second going to room acoustics, only if I could go back many setups ago with this approach alot of gear i parted with may have stuck around longer!
Let me put it this way. My house was built around 1988 or so. The people that had it built put in massive electric as they worked on cars in the garages. I have 200 amp service..have plenty of power, and a large circuit panel. Yes i have open slots. BUT the people for some reason decided to put a sheet rock ceiling in the room with the panel.
Now yes i might be able to have an electrician come in and run a dedicated line to the area i want it to be.....BUT to get there, to the panel. They would have to cut holes in my sheet rock ceiling.
So OK..the electrician may have cost me $300 bucks,(depending on were you live) but now i'm left with holes in the ceiling, so thats going to cost me another maybe $150 to fix, plus paint.
This all depends on the house, what year it was built and what if any open spaces people may have in there electric panel. To go thru all this, for a power amp for speakers..and it's an Emo amp to boot. I think NOT.
To be honest, hell you can buy a QSC GX5 or 7 amp, that use the same "H" power supply setup with a fan to cool it down.It has the same power and close to the same specks...so you have to spend 20 bucks ..get a quiet fan..10 bucks says you could not tell the difference between that and the EMO amp....LOL
Were talking about an EMO amp..that not alot of people like for 2 channel stereo...it's not a Krell or something else.
A stock Adcom 555 would probably blow this away sound wise.....so whats your point????
What you posted from amazon, is not even close. As to why it doesn't work, or whatever if somebody else whats to tell you why ..thats up to them. I give up.
This has nothing to do with emotiva and the fact that they put the 20 amp line on there is actually a GOOD thing.
The qsc gx7 you cite is somewhat the equivalent of that amazon cable. To get the rated output, it needs way more than the 15 amps, but they just slapped a 15 amp line it and you'll just get popped breakers.

Emotiva is to high performance stereo amplification as a Yugo is to a Ferrari 599.

Not sure who recommended that, but the load limit for a 20 amp line is 2400 watts.

Point being, if I see an amp with more than about 1500 watts total output that DOESN'T have a 20 amp line or dual 15's, I start to get suspicious. (looking at you, sunfire)
Granted, this is a simplification since your instantaneous output can exceed the draw, but there no getting around the laws of thermodynamics.
