And after I upgraded the coupling caps:
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

Very nice BAT...
Thanks! Not sure what happened to my pictures as it got upside down and I'm missing some. -

Excellent pics Glen! I actually saw something in the Phase Linear picture that shows an item I have on a Soundcraftsmen amp. Looks like a starburst shaped sleeve that's on the little capacitors??? Are they for cooling? That Outlaw Audio M200 amp looks like it would be sweet for a center channel amp.
-
The things you describe are indeed heat sinks, to dissipate heat. They are usually found on transistors and/or integrated circuits (i.e., active devices) that dissipate some heat, not on capacitors. Some power resistors will have a similar structure, typically built in to them.

Thanks for the info mrh, I looked closer at Glen's pic of his Phase Linear and the heatsinks are on something that looks more round and flat and not cylindrical like a cap.
I really admire how the Japanese made their electronics so well organized under the hood.:). That Pioneer looks beautiful. -
Yes, the starbust shaped sleeves are heatsinks, placed on the driver transistors to dissipate heat. The top Classe picture and the SAE2400 also have ones that are clearly visible. My new custom Gary Dodd amp using Hypex modules on a balanced power supply, both with separate switches; 200wpc 8ohm, 400wpc 4ohms and no noise.

Man just goes to show can't judge an amp by it's appearance. That thing looks like a knock off adcom
-
Thats because it is a repurposed Adcom chassis with a pair of these http://www.hypex.nl/product/ucd-amplifier-modules/ucd400st.html and a custom linear power supply. That thing looks like a knock off adcom

Well that explains it completely and by no means was I knocking that amp.. Thanks Fred

Wow, I love how they used to build gears like this one. a lot of shielding for sure!!!. it is a shame that many companies do not want to spend in "extra" metal or quality parts and have pride to show the inside of their gears. Most the time you will find a very nice amp, receiver etc, etc that look very nice from the outside, but as soon as you open it, you will find it's low quality build. Business, business, business...:rolleyes:Make it simple...Make it better! -
One Class A Krell KSA-250. 140 pounds, 4.5kVA transformer, 250WPC @ 8 Ohms, stable to 0.5 ohm at 4,000WPC.
There were three revisons of this amp. First build had vertical binding posts, second version sported horizontal binding posts and different soft start board with no separate low voltage power supply to activate the relays. This is the third revision with higher bias and some board changes.
Once upon a time Krell would mod these into mono blocks. I know a fellow here that has a pair of these converted to mono blocks. I bow to him.:cheesygrin:Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *
