Im doing a basic system on my 07 Ford Fusion. Ive put in Db 5 1/4 components up front, and coax in the rear doors, but needing to do some sort of a subwoofer to fill in the missing bass. I mostly listen to rock/metal/hip hop, etc, so plenty of low freq stuff.

I used to be really into audio gear 10+ years ago, but now I have no idea whats good, bad etc. I dont really need the ridiculous SPL anymore, just nice, solid SQ. This is a pretty budget build, so i just want to do a single amp, probably 4ch to run the front comp. and bridge the sub, leaving the rear doors off the HU as filler.

Im thinking a single 10 or 12 MM @ 4ohms. Looked at an alpine pdx F4, and its cheaper sibling the mrx 65, but im open to any other brands as well.

I guess first off, 10 or 12 (will the 10 suffice is the real question?), and then whats a decent amp to run the show?

Why dont you consider a 5-channel amp? It would give you the amplification on all the interior speakers and leave you with the separate output for the subwoofer. In the old days they were huge! If you look now a 5 channel can be small and compact and provide with all the soud you need.

I would do the 10". That sub is very versatile because it can hit tight and low, but it is not as sloppy as a 12" and is boomier than an 8".

I agree with the 5 channel amp suggestion. The days of those things being 25x4 + 100x1 are long since gone and there are some powerhouse 5 channels out there like Polks own D5000.5. Youve got 70x4 + 400x1 with a 2 ohm sub for $450. Thats a solid price and youre gonna have a much easier time with installation.

As for the subs, I ran a pair of MM104's the last couple years in competition and they work great. Theyre not as tight as Id like but they have nice thick output and sound good. Best of all, theyre pretty shallow too so you can build a box thatll fit into a tight space a lot easier.

    **Edit

After looking, OnlineCarStereo.com has it for $350 shipped.
