I have just seen the dvd for WWS.......................It was pretty good............ very intensive combat with alot machine guns firing back and forth, It kinda like Saving Private Ryan all over again with alot of killings............................it sure must have been a scary experience being a soldier on the grounds back in the dark days.

Anyways, the sound quality through out the movie was very good............and especially in the bass dept......the subs sure had a good workout.

Just one question.................has anyone seen this movie and how would you rate it been Black Hawk Down? I have the dvd but haven't opened it yet. Just wondering how violent was BHD?

I'm sure the sound will be a helluva lot better when it is released to everyone because those "special copies" are usually not in 5.1 stereo. There usually just for editing purposes.

The sound quality was almost 100%.....the 5.1 was all lit up on the receiver........however the pic quality could still be a little better!

Since this is one of my reference DVD, and had watch this many many times (especially the "Broken Arrow" scene), I thought it might be of interest to know the actual, historically accurate, that led to the battle:

    enjoy!

I just bought this yesterday and watched it today. it's intense. It's an incredible account of the Vietnam war in the mid 60's. War really is hell. This movie depticts things so realistically. Mel Gibson is really good in this.

Yeah the broken arrow scene is one of the more intense..

    glad i finally watched it.

Has anyone watch this movie on Oppo 970HD yet? This is one of my favorite war movies, and it seems very close to home lately, with all the news coming back from Iraq, but I digress.

In any case, I wonder if anyone has notice a bit of excessive grain. I didn't notice this before, but with the upconvert hack, the limitation of the PQ transfer is becoming very apparent. For those on Plasma/DLP/LCD, I appreciate your input if you happen to have it in your collection. Thanks.

I haven't seen it with an Oppo 970 but I watch the HD DVD last night, PQ was okay but nothing to brag about, I forgot it was an HD DVD until I took it out. I wasn't that impressed with sound either the machine guns sounded good but the explotions didn't really have much kick to them

Thanks, Millerman. I don't even know that it's out on HD-DVD already. The grain I would think, will be more obvious on HD-DVD.

I didnt really notice alot of grain in the picture, but the PQ didn't seem as smooth and sharp as some of the other HD DVD's I've seen, To tell the truth there have only been a couple of HD DVD that have really impressed me with the PQ Serenity, Apollo13, and Million Dollar Baby are a few off the top of head had really good PQ but many of the others that I've seen didn't look much better than SD DVD's. Sorry kinda got off topic, carry on.

You brought a very good point, how many times over do we need to keep buying the same movies, with the promise of better picture/sound/technology, etc.?

Btw, this movie is tough to watch even more so today, poignant to think that those young men, being put in harm-way then, and sadly, today.

The only reason I even opened a netflix acct. is that I could rent the new HD DVD's and see if the PQ was improved over the SD DVD before I bought them. so far I've only bought 3 and I bought all those before I open the netflix acct. so you can see where I'm going with this.

You've got problems with your display. Every HD-DVD I've played has blown upscaled SD-DVDs clear out of the ballpark.

As for WWS, an ok film, not one I'd own but an ok one time rental.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

I don't think that its a problem with my display, HDTV looks great and some of the HD DVD tittle like some I listed in a few post back looked great, worth the price of replacing my old copy. I did NOT say that the PQ on an HD DVD wasn't better than SD DVD upscaled just not enough improvment to spend $20-$30 on a copy of a movie I already own, thats why I netflixem first to see how much improvement was made over the SD version before I buy, and ''blown clear out of the ballpark,'' that's just going to have to be a matter of opinion. Given the choice between an HD DVD or a SD DVD I'd take the HD all day long, that is if I don't already have SD copy at home, unless it's a tittle like LOTR or the Starwars and I'd buy those blind .;)

Video vr film, you really cannot compare the two. Video which I'm sure is HDTV will most always out shine film.

Don't get me wrong I really like my HD DVD player I feel like it does what its supposed to do very well, iIthink its the folks who are making the DVD's and the film makers who are slacking.
