What is the "+" on the magnet for the tweeter?

I just received the replacement tweeter for the RTi28 I had that fell off of the wall. This is more of a matter of curiosity than anything, but on the back of the magnet on both my dead tweeter and the new one, there is a "+" drawn on one part of the magnet. Does this actually indicate anything?

Also, is there any particular direction to install this tweeter? I know it just pops into the front bevel, but is there a top and bottom or does it not matter which way you do it?

    The (+) on the speakers are you to keep all the speakers in the proper phase. This is called polarity. Be sure to place the same wire that is on your old speaker's (+) to the new speaker's (+). The other terminal is (-) and some speakers don't label it because if one is (+) the other must be (-).

    The position doesn't matter.

    It’s help to put the new tweeter in the same way as the old. This will help with the wiring of tweeter, small wire connector vs. larger wire connector.

    The + you see is must likely the polarity marking.

    The + that I'm talking about is NOT for the terminals -- I know what that is. The positive terminal is clearly labeled on the plastic, and the positive and negative leads use different size spades so you can't mix them up. What I'm talking about is a hand-drawn + on the actual magnet surface itself. On one tweeter, the + sign is drawn near the positive terminal. On the other, near the negative terminal. I was just curious as to whether there's a purpose to that hand-drawn mark. Any ideas?

    And disneyjoe, I'd love to put the new one in the same way the old one was... except that the old one got popped out when the speaker fell, and I have no idea which way it originally was. The markings on the front of the tweeter are identical if you flip it, so I can't compare to my other speakers. I just wanted to make sure that there was no "right side up" on this tweeter before I pop it in.

    It may have been put there during the manufacturing process to identify polarity when the part goes from one station to the next.

    I believe you are talking about the black X on the bucking magnet. It's there to show which side of the magnet faces out.

    Well I have replaced my Tweeters a few times now. (But never really blow the Tweeter another story for another time)

    What ever speaker it was RT800i or the RTi150, I found that the wires from the hole in the rear of tweeter wood housing/backing was longer 1 wire shorter the other. One wire is the positive I believe that this is the smaller wire spade connector (If my memory serves me right). Looking at the tweeter one is smaller, the other in larger you will have to put tweeter in the way you find the wiring from the speaker housing long / short.

    BTW looking at the pictures now (again memory thing) is this X on the magnet showing bottom or down? It maybe the wiring terminal size I'm talking about to.

    Correct. The bucking magnet must be attached so that it cancels out the magnetic field of the other magnet otherwise the speaker will not be "shielded."
