    VR3 is right about Rogers speakers, so add them to the list!

    You might want to check out this site for information on Classic Advents. I don't think much changed through the various models. I believe the A prefix begins the non-masonite series. But others can correct me if I am wrong.The U prefix stands for the Utility cab models.

    Rogers, maybe AR, are the only two brands that are considered VINTAGE that have the resolution I would require for a 2 channel system of mine.

    I'll buy Rogers speakers all day long if you can get them for the OP's budget of $200. Don't think that will happen :wink:

    Found some Rogers but Brock is right, out of my price range. I'm not really going for resolution, my PSB Synchrony One's do that in spades. I'm looking for some nice warm full bodied bookies that can play anything well. I really like vintage gear and want to try as much of it as I can down the road so thanks for the recommendation.

    Btw guys, the seller of the Large Advents has some Vandersteen 2C's. I'm going to listen to both and decide. I'll check in with you guys tomorrow but keep the recommendations coming because I might not like either of them :)

    Vandy's certainly aren't close to being bookies and are about 7/8 the size of SDA 2B's. and as I understand it the 2B's are too large for the space already.

    What I think has happened is me going from "I need smaller speakers" to "I think it's time to try something new so I'll MAKE room." Maybe I am an audio schizo :eek::eek::eek: :lol::cheesygrin:

    With that said I'd strongly prefer bookies so I don't have to move the TV stand that looks nice in my office.

    I have fond memories of wandering into a high end stereo shop back in the late 60's and hear the 6's. Not sure what the front end was but they totally blew me away with their clarity and realism. Love to hear some now to see how my memory of them compares with today's reality.

    I bought a pair of used KLH 5's back in the early 70's but replaced them with AR 2ax's which I thought blew them away.

    When I first got them, I refinished the cabinets on the KLH's and I remember the guy I sold them to later told me that they didn't sound that great to him but the cabinets had the nicest finish he had ever seen. So I wasn't the only one not in love with their very mellow, subdued sound.

    KLH 5s and AR 2s. Not a good comparison. The KLH dwarfs the smaller AR. Try KLH 17s and the AR 2s. Both very nice speakers.

    The 5s are designed to put out "bottom" end. The ARs fair better with less bass more midrange and highs. KLH 17s are also very very smooth in that range but maybe a little more laid back and "warmer" than even ARs?

    I can tell you how they stand up to modern gear. I have a couple of LSi-7s on one end of the room and the KLH 17s on a side desk on the other. The 7s can provide some more detail up top but the 17s don't give up much "musically", in fact, generally speaking they sound good with almost all sources of music. The 7s are also pretty good but not as "forgiving" of some source material. The same is true for speakers that resolve even more detail then Lsis. They are less and less and less forgiving and more and more picky about sources and recordings. So if you are a "critical" listener (who loves to hear everything that is "wrong" in a recording buy some new HIGHLY resolving speakers, but if you want most of what you have to sound acceptably musical and smooth). 17s are not bad at all. In fact they're a Kloss winner. Stick some tubes on them and they'll "sing" for you, you'll calm down, your pulse rate will slow, your BP will drop 10 points and you'll forget about all the problems in the world and the wrongs done to "you" personally.

    Glad you are enjoying the SIX's. I told you I was sad to see them go, I think I might like them better than the Monitor 7's. I'll definately be looking for another pair one day.

    I have felt the same way about several Advents. About to start work on 6's and 17's. Should be fun.

    I am sure you are right about the KLH's versus the AR 2s. I haven't heard either of them since the mid 70's so it's an old memory. I just remember being disappointed in the mid's and high's on the KLH 5's. Also, I think I was using a JVC "silver face" integrated amp (don't remember the model) at the time and maybe it was undersized for them.
