Denon vs Yamaha?

I have a choice. To be primarily used as a pre-amp: Denon AVR 1907 or Yamaha V659?

To be combined with HK amp..

    I don't think the Denon has pre-outs except for the +2 channels. Is that right? The Yamaha does. Were you looking to just drive the second zone or surrounds with an amp?

    The Denon does have preouts. In fact, both receivers are pretty damn close to identical in functionality. I guess I'm really asking an opinion on sound quality as compared between the two brands.

    Im currently using the 5 channels of my HK amp for f,cente, and rears, with 2 channels running to a second zone elsewhere in the house powered off the Denon.

    I would recommend Yamaha. Sure, it may be a bit bright but IMO Yamaha is a much more reliable brand than Denon. I've owned 3 or 4 Denon receivers over the years and had problems with every one of them.

    I have had two Yamaha's and one Denon. Like HT said, the Yamaha is very reliable. However, my Yamaha's don't hold a candle to my Denon in the sound department. I guess a lot of what you hear will depend on the speakers your are pushing. My Yamaha was pretty bright on my RTi's and the Denon has a nice warm sound.

    I have to say Denon with those speakers also. I prefer the Denon sound over Yamaha anyway.

    ive never owned a denon so i cant truthfully say how they sound and if they break down all the time (but ive read a lot that says both). what i can say is that ive owned a small handful of yamaha's and they have never failed, or broken or whatever you want to call it...even when pushing current hungry speakers....they just work...their sound though, could be improved on which is why i only use them now in budget rigs. (my bedroom and my office)

    I have been using a Denon (4310CI) coupled with external amps for well over a year. Never had a single problem with the Denon in terms of reliability. Nonetheless, I have read that some folks have had problems with various models manufactured over the last few years.

    My only complaint is the owners manual (for me) is horribly difficult to decipher.

    The XX07 series are fairly "reliable". I gave a friend an AVR 887 (which I believe is like a 2307). And I upgraded, at that time to an AVR 2807, still in my basement system with an all Polk bookie Rti system and Polk sub. Denons love Polks! At least the older ones did!

    So yea. Denon. Those lower end Yammies are a bit too bright for me. Whereas the Denon is just right. But Upper level Yammies are pretty good. They sound better to me!

    I second that lower-end yammies are bright. I have this, and I wanna change. However, my mother have a Denon AVR and Polk RTI4, and it's a tad more neutral than my yamaha...

    LOL I have a 4310CI (fantastic AVR) and agree the owner's manual is like reading a foreign language... I went here: http://batpigworld.com/setup.html and learned everything I needed to know about how Denons operate.

    You can't have other people decide on sound for you. Whatever sounds best to you. Everyone hears things differently and likes different kinds of sounds.

    This is a lot like a FORD vs CHEVY question...

    If you bleed blue then Ford is what you buy, if you like to calling your Ford owner friends over for a tow, then you buy a Chevy. There's just no right answer.... :razz:
