A Little Christmas Present for Myself ;)

Got a little present for my HD600s (and me by extension).

My curiosity about headphone amps got the better of me so I decided to give the Schiitt Asgard a try.

I have to run out right now, but my initial impressions are *wow*.

    Ha! I lol'd. Very cool, I bought myself a couple pair of MIT ICs, I can't wait to give my brother his new cans, I even convinced my mom to buy him a nuforce dac2 for them, happy holidays praz!

    I want to try one of these myself for my HD 650s they sound really good out of just my Fiio but i've heard way too many good things about the asgaard with regards to the HD 6XX cans that at some point i will get it.

    Very nice - MIT ICs are on my to do list - hell I probably should have gotten a pair for the amp. I think you're brother's going to be a very happy man come christmas morning ;) Happy holidays!!

    LOL. And here I was deliberately toning down the title of the thread lol. Speaking of which, anyone seen the new episodes of Beavis and Butthead? Any good?

    Considering I've got about 10 minutes of listening on this amp, it's probably too early to give a definitive review on it. But I did a quick A/B w/ the NAD's built in headphone jack and the difference is pretty audible. Connected the NAD, the 600s sound a little muffled in the mid / high areas. With this Schiit (ha!), very noticeable increase in clarity, quieter background are my first impressions. I think the NAD did a good job on the low end despite a relatively high output impedance (68 ohms vs .5 ohms) - but it's tighter w/ the amp.

    The other thing I had read about in earlier versions was some hum, but I believe Jason Stoddard said that was an easy fix and I'm not hearing any mechanical hum.

    Anyway - I took a chance on this and thus far, it seems like a great bang for the buck purchase.

    I remember seeing that MIT discussion and totally whiffed on it. Already have some black mamba II ICs coming in for the headphone amp.

    Schiit yah! It totally is.

    Last night I put on the 24/96 version of Wilco's 'The Whole Love' and had an unusual experience. I realized I haven't been able to sit and listen to the HD600s at a stretch since I bought them. I think I just wasn't satisfied w/ the SQ or my ears would get fatigued. But there was none of that last night ...just listening to some tunes and loving everything I was hearing. I think I actually fell asleep towards the end and had to force myself to get up and turn the amp off. Again, the last few years I haven't been able to sleep w/ music on (used to be able to)...guess I'm getting old.

    Very smooth sound overall. It's my first headphone amp, so another new experience. But I'm diggin it.
