Epson Home Cinema 8350 = 1080UB?

Currently have an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080UB, was wondering if the new Home Cinema 8350 is equivalent to the 1080UB? Reason being they use the same 1920*1080 TFT D7 LCD panels, have the same contrast specs, and weigh about the same.

I am thinking when the lamp goes (1,900 hours) I will replace the 1080UB with the 8350.

Would this be a wise thing to do? Or would it be a downgrade?

    Do they use the same bulb?

    Or is one cheaper than the other(bulb)

    It depends on the vendor, but the bulb prices are roughly the same.

    Does the 1080 ub use the same etorl lamp?

    One thing to consider .... I bought a lamp from another manufacturer for my panasonic 200 gaming rig and it was ok at first but then the colors were horrid and the brighness suffered . By the time I was 400 hours into the lamp it had trouble lighting up a 100" image with dynamic 2100 lumen mode. Then the grayscale was way off and too hard to fix. 2 days ago the lamp blew and there was only 1136 hours on it in and 400 was in eco half power lamp mode. I thought it was good to only pay 150 dollars but now after the horrible contrast of all them hours it was hardly worth it

    Just make sure you buy an original lamp

    If you can spare the extra funds the 5010 seems very promising. I was looking at one myself and finally moving the JVC elsewhere. The 8700UB would be the worthy upgrade, the 8100 and 8350 would be incremental upgrades if you ask me.

    I missed my whole point .... the 1080ub is the best and will hammer the 8350 so its a huge step back in pq

    If you dont want 3d then the epson 8700 will get you the same pq as the 5010 for 1k less. If you want 3d then the panasonic and epson will have ghosting and a few users on avs have sent them back because the tech is flawed. Only DLP seems to offer the non ghosting solid 3D images and the acer h9500bd has hit the streets at $1500 and is considered an ultra high contrast projector like the 1080ub . for the money you get rock solid 3d and sharp DLP picture paired up with the current champ of 2d to 3D conversion and unlike the espson 5010 you have frame interpolation and dynamic iris engaged available in 3D. You also get a pair of glasses and dlp 3D glasses work with all the tech so you can snag additionals for $50. The only flaw is that you need somthing else if you want to tweek the grayscale. Its brightness is good but the king is coming to the shelf's soon for $2500 and that would be the ghost free dlp Benq 7000 and it should win over the acer by being slightly higher in brightness and contrast

    Congrats! I'm thinking about the 8350 because something new will always be around the corner, so a unit with equal PQ to the 1080UB would hold me over until the next big thing...

    Either that or I plan to replace the lamp in the 1080UB.

    You obviously dont understand ????? The epson 8350 is an inferior projector compared to the 1080ub. Why would you consider a downgrade in performance? Have you saw the 8350 because the contrast ratio is over inflated like crazy in comparison to the 1080ub's over inflated contrast

    Replace the bulb or step it up

    I was considering the 8350 also, but I heard while it has bang for the buck I'd be disappointed in the image compared to my plasma. What are the relatively inexpensive options for image quality no worse than the plasma? Looking for a ~110" image, and if I didn't have to pay a 3D premium that'd be all right too.

    Jim for you I would look no further than the Acer h9500bd because its the best under 2K projector for 2d performance. Its considered an ultra high contrast because its got 50.000:1 giving it great black levels and that natural dlp look. The 3D performance is just a big bonus for this projector and it happens to be better than the 3k and 5K offerings. The 3d has zero ghosting and no cross talk giving you the perception of great depth with no headache because the image is stable

    Another option is the benq w6000 thats retailing for $1500 on amazon and its got a great picture with 50.000:1 contrast. Again like the acer h9500bd it is a single chip DLP and the benefit of the tech is an extremely sharp image because there is no convergence caused by 3 lcd panels not aligning properly

    You could go hunting and try find b stock for the epson 8500 or panasonic 4000 projectors from places like visual apex (the take amazon payments cards) or projector people

    I would second Sherard's suggestion. The 8700UB would do the trick. The 8350 is more of an entry-level projector and while its image quality is decent, I don't think it could match up to the 8700UB. I mistakenly thought the 8350 was as good as my 1080UB, but after reading owners' reviews from AVS forum the old 1080UB is preferred.
