Since I do most of my off the wall thinking in the morning and for some of you for your amusement I was wondering about this Tosiba BLU-RAY I got last week. I put new batteries in the remote followed the prompts and then it seems like they repeat what ever they are going to show w/o ever getting to it.Not to mention all the previes that you can't advance . Now I realize some people do like the director cuts and effects that come w/ the disc but come on now If I'm in the mood to watch a **** movie that's exactly what I want to do. How's that for an early morning rant. One priviso is that this is my first BLU /RAY player ever and I have to admit there is no comparison between dvds and the audio on them. The model isTosiba BDX2200 open box at BB for $56( no box but the remote is ok)Movies seen so far are the new Tron,U-571(depth charge attack was amazing ) and Battle Los Angeles.Maybe Sat.I'll go to the flea mkt. and get some more discs....

Sad to say, but it's actually been a couple of months since I've fired up my BR. If I remember correctly though, usually there is a disc menu button on the remote . You cannot actually "skip" the previews by advancing through them, but if you hit that disc menu, it will bring you straight to the actual menu (where you would select play)
I'm assuming this is the case - I could very well be stuck in DVD land still so I appologize if that doesn't work anymore65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

I know where you are coming from. Every so often I like to watch the previews but if I want to skip to the movie I should have the option. Some discs allow it and some do not. I now fire everything up and while the player is doing its thing I am getting a drink and a snack for the movie. By the time I am done, so is all the bs waiting. Your rant sounds like it could go in the pet peeves thread. A good one for sure.Everything matters. That is all.
Money cannot buy happiness, but it sure can buy a bad **** boat to pull up along side it though. -
Sony is the worst for previews and such. They lock out the option to bypass them when you try and hit any of the menu buttons. IIRC one Sony movie I have required me to "skip" thirteen different previews before getting to the main menu.
One way to help get to the main menu faster is to unplug the network connection to your player. More studios are using BD live to pull trailers down which takes much longer. -

Agree, the previews are annoying and on certain discs take forever. Welcome to new age marketing where you can't do a thing without advertising being thrown in your face.HT SYSTEM-

If the BR has the skip to the movie option disabled you can always use the next chapter button to advance. A pain, but it does work.
The real irritant with BRs is that some do not support the resume play where stopped option. I HATE that since I never watch a movie straight through.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
