You have to admit that it's all getting pretty surreal at this point. I'm pretty familiar with the 'so-called' principles of Anarchist Assemblies--they've been around for over a century and scholars have studied them and their movements. In this there is nothing 'new' in these forms of semi-organization and protest.

But Occupying Oppo, I'm sure OPPO could turn that slogan into an AD for their product. That's what I would do--it 'screams' commercial!

They do have a job as a good chunk of them are being paid to cause mayhem. What I find disturbing is that those responsible for putting all this together are not standing in a federal court somewhere on charges of treason, incitement of riots, accessory to rape, criminal trespass, destruction of government and private property, hate crimes, and conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States. What they really need is to be occupying a jail cell or a slow boat to whatever country they feel is better than the one they already live in.

I'm all for peaceful protesting when you feel you have a cause.
When it becomes violent and you begin to hurt people and property you toss all of your rights.
Any asshead throwing bricks and firebombs, burning cars and buildings,Police should shoot on sight!

I had the misfortune of running into their protest last night through Porkland. I had hoped to miss it, but no such luck. Wasn't happy I had to walk over a mile out of my way to avoid them. Lugging 50lbs of A/V gear really improved my mood. Everyone I chatted with were just as pissed as me.

Today they are protesting outside a Hilton hotel because the CEO of Chase is in town. Who knows what they will protest tomorrow. Maybe farting in public.. ??!!

The thing I hate the worst is when the media compares these useful idiots to the Tea Party. There is no comparison. Top down ,bottom up transformation does not work in a free country. What a coincidence that Oakland is the most violent city so far and home of Van Jones.. There are no coincidences. Peace,Darryl

We must always protect the right to protest and freedom of speech no matter what they protest for. That being said we also have a right to protest against them or criticize them and their actions.

Their actions have lead to the hurting of many small businesses on mainstreet while they protest against the same massive banks that watch their parents money and their trust funds. I guarantee if you searched the wallets of these punks they'd have Visa credit cards from Bank Of America, Chase etc.

The Occupy Wallstreet (OWS) protestors aren't for world peace and aren't against violence, if they were then they would be protesting outside the White House, Congress, Pentagon and military bases, these protestors are just anti-capitalists and Michael Moore has clearly said so. Notice they aren't protesting for the closing of Gitmo Bay or Abu Ghraib prisons? The OWS is no different than the protestors in Greece, many are Marxists and anti-semitic anti-Israel plain and simple.

I'm all for protest and righting wrongs when "evil doers", and miscreants try to F things up for the rest us. Personally, I think these "protest" have a lot more to them than meets the eye when you consider the current administration. I am not going to get political because that is not for this forum. I did want to post this cartoon from 1934, that is all.

^^^Thanks for that. No politics, but I have said it many times before... KNOW YOUR HISTORY. It is the only way we can keep it from repeating itself.

I don't know about other Occupy protests elsewhere, but what's stopping the police from coming in and take control are those spineless politicians. In San Francisco, we have members of the Board of Supervisors (several of them running for mayor*) down at the protest offering support for the occupation of a public venue. In Oakland, we have a spineless mayor who don't know what the heck she's doing (the Oakland Chief of Police publicly expressed this). When the mob shuts down the 5th busiest port in the country, I'd think the Oakland Police would bring out the "big guns". But in the end, the police in both San Francisco and Oakland stood by passively.

    * Several years back, I interviewed the current president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (now running for mayor) on my little AM radio show. He was a weasel then (can't even answer a simply question without getting a nod from his "puppeteer") and he continues to be a weasel.

Man! I'm in Boston and we're a pretty liberal city run by Democrats but it's not nearly as leftwing and "free spirited" as the Bay Area, you guys make us look conservative. New Englanders are not like Californians. We shun the spot light, attention and flamboyance.
