I currently have a (2009) Sony CDP-CE375 and I'm looking at a (1994) SONY CDP-C601ES.

Would I really gain anything with the older ES?
Will it play all the modern formats my CD375 plays?
Should I just keep what I have and don't worry about a ES?

TIA
Jim

Not sure of your budget. I have a Sony DVP-NS9100 ES and I absolutely love the thing. It is built like a tank. The remote is a little squirrely but it will play CD, SACD, DVD but will not play Blu-Ray and DVD-Audio. I paid $250 for mine. HTH. Cheers.

I prefer a separate DVD Player from my music player.
Also I like a 5 disk for my Classical sets.

I was just wondering if a ES series is gonna improve anything over what I have now.
    I'm thinking music quality MAYBE a lil....build quality a lot....but I'm speculating.

better caps and dac's in the ES but between the two it might be a wash. The older ES players are getting long in the tooth and WILL need a cap replacement I have a ES cd player i bought new in 1990 I am in the process of replacing all the caps on the board (65 of them). Before I'd buy an older ES player I'd want to look into the machine and see if any caps have been replaced or have leaked. Some of the older ES machines used some VERY corrosive caps that will just eat the copper traces and anything near them completely through the board. CAUTION is the word

Sony XA5400ES. Plenty of info on the Internet to Google. Probably the best buy in SACD/CD around.

I also have the 9100ES in my HT for surround sound SACD, and it too is great. However, I have a Sony DA7100ES AVR which allows me to use the digital Sony Ilink between the SACD and AVR for jitter free digital to the AVR, which is used as a pre/pro. If you can find a used 7100ES/9100ES pair then that is a good route. Otherwise, go with the XA5400ES.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

If it's gonna hafta go in the shop for a re-vamp hardly seems worth the risk to me.

The only spinner from Sony that was worth a crap was the 555ES.
