Yamaha AVENTAGE AVR's

Any first hand experience with this new line from Yammie. They get great reviews but just wondering how they stack up against the offerings from Pioneer, Onkyo, NAD, Anthem, Arcam, CA, Rotel...etc. Also how does their YPAO system compare to the other's room correction programs. Inquiring minds want to know.

I can answer part of your question. I have a Yamaha RXV-667 which has some of the same internal components as the Aventage line, but not all the higher quality parts. It's rated at 90 wpc x 7 channels and has the YPAO.
I used the YPAO several times during set up and never could get a balance that I liked. Usually the volume on the rear surrounds was too low, and the center channel was too high. The Yamaha is powering the center channel and rear surrounds with the front Left/Right being powered by a Carver power amp.
Once I manually set the level all is well. I really like it. It has a very clean sound and great audio processing in the various formats."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Possible upgrade, Phil? I have no experience with the new Yammies. Of the older models, only the higher models were worth the time. I'm sure you've read the reviews and seen the new pics of the higher end Aventage series. They certainly look very well built and laid out, massive heat sinks, large caps, centered transformers, symmetrical architecture, improved processing...by all accounts, Yamaha has upped their game on these models. I would definitely give them a listen.
And maybe someone 'here' has actually heard one of the higher models. I'd still be wary of anything in the low to mid-range line!

Really don't know yet. My NAD T765 is getting a bit long in the tooth so a possible move might be in the near future. I've priced NAD's modules but they are just too pricey for me to make that move. I am also looking at pre/pro's in the $2k range which is about my limit for an AVR or pre/pro. There's just so much good stuff out there you head starts to ache from all the researching I've been doing."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up.

I would stay away from them IMHO. The Pioneer Elites are better from an all-round performance standpoint, and the ICE amps are nice. The only Yammy out there worth consideration for me would be the RX-z line, but even then I think the Elite wins out.The Gear... Why not try an anthem mrx 500 ? There is an integra 9.9 going for $700 on ebay or try for a used anthem d2 with arc for around $2200 .The integra 80.2 with xt32 usually sell for around $1200 to $1400 on ebay or you could go with the marantz av7005 and a popular choice is the denon 4311 with xt32 and it has a preamp mode .
Why not wait until all the new models are out and the current ones will go way down in price after jan -
I do not have any direct experience but have read the reviews on the RX-A1000 & A2000 in HT magazine. Feature-wise they seem to be loaded and the construction quality looks good. The only somewhat glaring drawback I saw was the actual power into 5-channels or more. Although the A1000 is rated at 105 it only delivered 54 into 5-channels. The A2000 rated at 130 delivered 71. They may have large transformers but they don't seem to be getting much out of them. Of course if you're using external amps that wouldn't matter.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

If so, check out the Marantz AV7005, the picture is fantastic and the audio is great too, for a multi-channel processor.
Sound wise, it blows away any of the $500-700 receivers I've owned, but still doesn't compare to the $3,500 in separates I use in the same rig. Then again for a true 2 channel move it from the AVR, I think and use a Pioneer Elite AVR (an older model) for HT and believe it would be hard to beat.

I have an Onkyo, had an HK AVR 254, and 2 previous Yamahas - RX-V661 and RX-V863. All of these have been through my main HT rig, and with the exception of the Onkyo, all were used with external amplification. The 661 was first, and the 863 was a slight upgrade in sound quality, but both of them had just a tad too much bite for my liking, which was really only noticeable to my ears during music listening sessions. The HK solved that problem nicely, but eventually I got bored of the feature set and the way the controls worked. It was also the hottest AVR I've ever used. Wanted to go back to Yamaha, but knew I'd probably only be happy with their higher-end line. Tried an RX-A800, and returned it after only minutes of listening (I thought it sounded too much like my previous V661 - a step back, IMO). Bit the bullet and went for the RX-A1000, and I can't see any reason for me to be replacing it for quite some time. Of all the AVRs I've had, this one offers the best of both worlds. I've been very satisfied with both HT and music performance. I don't know exactly why, but the 1000 was markedly better than the 800. I think there are some upgrades in the 1000/2000/3000 line that the 800 didn't have.
I think the YPAO system is fine. As far as I'm concerned, it's comparable to the others. I think the current line is an improved version of what they were using a few years ago when I had the RX-V models. The Pioneer models are nice. If I had the $$, I'd probably have considered an SC. However, there's just something about the Yamaha sound that has always stuck with me, and in my price range, that's just always what floated my boat. -
If your running all external amps, there is no need to pay for added weight that your not going to use weather it is Ice or Fire. I would look for a pre that had Audyssey XT32 and dual sub outs. Supposedly XT32 works well enough that it has caused SVS to wave the white flag and discontinue their sub eq.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Yes, I am using a Rotel RMB-1095 multi channel amp so my power needs are well taken care of. That Marantz looks like a very, very nice piece! What else do you have up your sleeve as far as the $3500 in separates go...inquiring minds want to know!

I compared the A1000 vs the sc35 at best buy running some martin logan floorstanders. They played some rock conert blue ray and I have to say, in that room, with those speakers, the sc35 sounded like mud next to the a1000, which sounded like live music... I couldn't believe it.
Long story short, seems like there was a big difference betweent the two, so bring your favorite cd to best buy and try them both before you buy.Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:
