I had to wait in line about 2 hours this morning at the apple store so you did the smart thing by
    ordering it.

Did you have any issues activating it? I read that some people were having issues activating it because so many people were trying at the same time and the servers couldnt handle it.

No, took less than 5 minutes. There was a couple customers in the store having activation problems but they were Sprint customers.

Did any of you go with Sprint? I still have my AT$T 3GS with unlimited web access. I use it quite a bit and don't want to have a limited plan knowing I would often run over. I have considered switching to Sprint for their unlimited plan. I know the limitatons of not being able to call and check email and things. I only see that as a minor issue.

AT&T will still grandfather in the unlimited data plans. I actually ditched mine a few months back because I wanted tethering and was never even getting close to the 4Gb I now have with the tethering plan. In fact, I checked this morning and since I've had that plan I've never used even half of my full bandwidth.

More patient yes, smarter is arguable. I stood in line for an hour this morning waiting to get mine and I don't feel any less 'smart' than I did 2 weeks ago before I knew the phone existed. Would I stand in line for hours? No probably not, but an hour for me is acceptable. One could argue that anyone being excited about a phone is dumb, but then one could argue that about virtually anything, my friends probably think I'm crazy because I 'think' I can heard a difference in stereo gear.

That's the first I heard of the allowing you to keep the unlimited plan. I'll have to check.

Yeah, if you have that plan on a line already and you're upgrading THAT line, you can keep the unlimited plan, at least they were letting people do that left and right here this morning.

Also, it looks like Apple's servers are getting hammered, and people (myself included) are experiencing intermittent problems with Siri. It needs a connection to their servers to work, and since those are getting slammed right now your voice control thing may or may not work until that volume levels out.

    Buh?

I can totally understand being excited for new things. Just... waiting in line for hours for something you could just easily get a week later without waiting in line at all seems silly to me. Unless you just enjoy standing in line, in which case, sounds like a party ;)

You should check your usage sometime. I use my phone CONSTANTLY, and figured I needed the unlimited plan, only to discover I was using like, half a gig most months.

I wouldn't wait for hours myself. An hour though isn't a big deal, we wait that long to get into a decent restaurant on Friday nights. Also, if this is anything like the iPad 2 (which I don't know if it will be), it'll be a month before you can get one if you don't get one on launch day. I agree with your statement as it reads though, if I know I can get it a week later without having to wait then yeah I'd rather do other things with my time than stand in line for hours.

After being at a launch event yesterday though I do have to admit the whole thing was a bit exciting. And yes I realize how dumb that sounds since it's just a phone, I remember laughing at all the freaks who stood outside the theaters for hours when the new Start Wars movies came out, or the LOTR movies or whatever. Why would anyone stand in line for hours to wait to see a movie they could just walk in and see next week? Idiots.

Turns out maybe they're not freaks or idiots, they're just different.

If you're a people watcher though one of these events can be interesting to take in. It's sorta like Black Friday, but obviously with fewer people. It's more interesting though because everyone is there for the same thing and from what I gathered yesterday tend to think that owning an Apple product creates some bond between them. I got the phone, but the more interesting part was watching all these people...

The iPhone screen and performance are significantly better than the Bionic's.

Had iPhones since the first and went to the Samsung Galaxy S II a few months ago. If I didn't own and iPad, I never would have. It is amazing to see how great the performance is on the iPhone 4S.

    Droid does not have SIRI

    SIRI is AMAZING!!!!!!!!

we asked it for my dad's phone number and it read it off, we asked it to find the closest Costco and it found 4 of them.

If you tell it to send a text message it does.

    Skynet is Here!!!!

Well to be fair, Android has been able to do many things like send texts, run searches, etc. via voice for quite some time now. (years) If I ask it, "What's the weather like on San Francisco?" it will bring up proper results.

The area Android comes short is setting an alarm, calendar, reminder and things like that.

It is too bad that Apple is artificially limiting Siri to the iPhone 4S when the iPad 2 is faster and people have already managed to get it to run on the 4. Apple is blocking any commands being sent back to the 4 since it is all server/cloud based like Google voice recognition, which will run on virtually any handset.

Marginally better screen resolution that the droid bionic. But I do have a bigger screen. I can also upload and down load files just as fast. Having flash 11 is sweet too. Tons and tons of free apps available on the android market.
Being able to print files using my phone with an external printer really rocks!
I can also add bigger batteries and up the memory at any time. And those are a few things off the top of my head.

I just got the iPhone 4S on Friday... It is my first smartphone (I was using an old Motorola Razor). While the phone itself was working, I could not get 3G connection (no 3G, no mail, internet or Siri). Features would work at home when I enabled wireless but once I was out of range , I got no server available errors.

Took it to AT&T and they were saying a lot of users are having the issue because of the demand in activations and that the phone should work after a few hours. It took eight hours before 3G started working.

Seriously, platform debates are POINTLESS. Poeple like what they like, you like what you like, just effing enjoy it.
