ok so i have my rtia3 sometimes i turn the subwoofer off for music (svs pc13 ultra btw)>=] and when i turn the sub off and turn the bass up just a little bit on the fronts, for stereo mode of course" they seem to sound disorted in mid/high volumes! is it because midrange is blown?! Please if somebody could please let me know! i was really loving the a3's!=[ and i have a tile floor would putting spikes on help n e?! oh and alse how do i change sig?! alot has changed! (sorry for all the questions!)

    I can't tell you if they are blown. A set of.bookshelfs should use a sub to help fill in the bottom end.

    Questions

    Are you running a crossover when you listen to music?

    Have you smelled the port of the speakers? You might be able to tell a burnt voice coil.

    Have you taken an ohm measurement?

    Normally, if you burnt up a speaker by using a unclean source, clipping, or overpowering speakers. The sound should get worst over time till the speaker sound distorted on almost any material nearly any volume level.

    More and likely, you have a used your equalization or tone setting to produce too much bass at too much volume. You should use your powered sub to produce the low end bass you desire with a crossover on the RTi A3's and they will sound fine at higher volumes during music playback once again.

    Bookshelf speakers often don't have a powerful low bass frequency presence due to their design and intended purpose. This statement excludes some high price offerings and some powered studio monitor speakers I have seen.

    1st off, you speak of floor spikes,, dont understamd, bookies dont sit on the floor, as far as useing a sub for 2 channel music, thats more up to ones taste, there original purpose, was for home theater, i dont use one for 2 channel music, as most music does not go that low, Keep in mind, bookshelf speakers well give you decent bass, but there not gonna give you that deep room shaking bass, and turning up the bass, wont help, i use my bookshelf speakers in my 2 channel, because they image better, and have a tighter, cleaner midrange, compared to my towers, Want mucho bass, get some decent towers, im not a bass freak, but to each there own, alot also depends on your room size, This is all just my OP, everyone has there own take on such things, as far as yor sig, go to edit my signiture, jimmy.

    Sounds like you are pushing your avr too hard and it is clipping and so you hear distortion in your RTiA3s.

    I had RTiA3s and at one point was using a Yamaha RX-V1800 AVR that fed my modified Carver M-1.0t power amp via the preouts.

    I could go 'stupid loud' and the RTiA3s were clean and clear top to bottom.

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    Yes, me too, have had mine Verry loud, no distortion, it would almost have to be that, or it could be possibel hes got something wired wrong???

    ok sorry for late reply...spikes on my speaker stands- i would like to know if i should put spikes on my stands, my floor is hardwood, second i use stereo mode for speakers and i came to like how they sounded with the svs sub, so that solves that problem! 3rd i would like to know how to change my sig.?!
