After getting my new ICs I instantly noticed that A humm I used to have w/ inferior cables was totaly gone. Now w/ ss systems I would think the there should be no hum low level or otherwise. In the case of tubes is ther hum as tubes heat up or no such sound should happen unless you have inferior ICS and and mabe an errant stable. I do not use stples just ty-raps to secure the wires then staple the raps and not touch the cables at all.

ground loop? do you have catv connected to your pre/receiver?JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Like George said. Ground Loop,
It's probably your cable/satellite box. -
Old cables had a hum. New cables do not have a hum. Sounds like a cable problem. Glad its fixed. Keep those cable connections clean and tight. And hum is never acceptable.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

One is a bit more philosophical about a little residual hum when one's amplifiers use directly (AC) heated triodes for AF output and one's loudspeakers manifest triple-digit sensitivity (i.e., 100+ dB @ 1 meter for 1 watt in). Just sayin'.

I also got some hum in my system from lower-end tubed preamp.. removal of the offending equipment immediately resolved my hum. More acceptable tube equipment did not produce the same hum.

the way I h/u my tv is Hdmi from tv to cable box and then a Hdmi cable out from the yamaha back to tv to pick up the on screen
YPAO.To p/u audio because I like watching silent tv and having tunes at the same time so I have an optical cable out of cable box into av1 optical port on the Yamaha. Now to be totallytransparent I do share some devices like the yds-dock /i-pod and my Denon cdp between both systems .For the h/t into the cdp I have a HDMI cable and the dock has a propriatary cord. To p/u these units for 2-chl I use analog cables into the cd input and tuner input respectively into my Onkyop-301 pre .Also I'm getting i-net streaming radio the same way.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I had a ground loop in my 2-channel rig that was caused by Cablevision although my HT is totally separate.
I purchased a ground loop isolator and had great results, the ground loop is now completely gone. Their technicians claimed the system was properly grounded. In fact, the cable caused the loop. The best part is that I got the cable company to issue me a credit equal to the cost of the device. The last cable guy that came by to check out a separate issue with my internet speed examined device but couldn't believe the isolator was resolving my loop issue. He tested it out by removing it from my system and checking for other possible causes. He finally realized the issue was a loop caused by the cable. Afterwards he jotted down the make and model number.

Same here! The only time humming is acceptable is when the system is not working, then I hum like hell!Never acceptable in my home anyway. I'll hunt that sucker down or it will bug me to no end.DARE TO SOAR:
