Thinking of upgrading from my Denon 1611 to something with preouts. I'm most interested in the biggest improvement in sound quality. I'm researched out!

I'm assuming your going to use external amps , what speakers do you own and what size is your room. Out of those 3 I feel the Pioneer Elite SC25 is the best overall receiver as a receiver. Half the reason to get a ICE powered Elite is for the sound quality and the amps.

I have the SR5005 and I am extremely happy with the sound and performance. I preferred the sound of it over the sound of the Pio and HK. Was running RTi12's, a CSi5 and some Def Tech pro cinema 800 on it knowing that I was going to get an external amp in the future and was pleasently surprised with the sound. Just picked up a Parasound HCA 2205AT to add more power and have never been happier.

Pioneer>Marantz>HK in personal opinion. I have the Elite sc35, and tried the 6005 and HK3600 and definitely like the elite better, Marantz was nice and I wasn't a big fan of HK.

Thanks so much for the advice. Yeah, I kinda figured the Pioneer would be the one most suggested. It was the one I was leaning towards as well.

Room size is 13x13. I have M60s and a new CS2 but I really want to move up to ML Electromotions in the future hence the avr upgrade. The Denon 1611 has served me well and I've never had any issues with it but its days are numbered.

With the MLs and the Pio Elite, I probably won't have to upgrade for a while, at least a coupla years.

My wife hated the sound of our Pioneer 1120k. I thought it sounded amazing with movies but not so great with music. I don't know how the SC-25 compares to it.

I can say that he Harman Kardon AVR 3600 is a very good sounding receiver but quality control is questionable because I received 2 before I got a good one on the third. The third one sounded great but I'm returning it becaus I ordered a H/K AVR 7550 which sounds phenomenal so much so I'm going to sell my B&K amplifier because it isn't needed any more!

I always liked my Pioneer 1120, but the SC series is a night and day difference.

I agree completely. I've tried all 3 and now currently using the SC-25.
