CP Folks,
Anybody aware of a good quality, moderate cost replacement for the trusty RS meter? They seem to be discontinued and in very short supply.
Thanks, Ken

Do you want/need an R/S meter? I have a spare (analog) one - PM me if you're interested.
PartsExpress and MCM both, I believe, do have inexpensive (as well as expensive) SPL meters - check their websites.
I cannot say anything about their quality, though. -
There are some other ones that look exactly like the RS units. I am sure they are made by the same company that made the RS ones.
You can also find people selling them on ebay. Do an ebay search for the radio shack part number only. You might call radioshack and have them look to see if there is any stores near buy that would happen to have one as well.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Ken,
PM rooftop59 and ask him. I just bought one from him and he had mentioned that he had two. Not sure if he still has it but if it helps. -
Thanks guys, actually I have one and it's fine. I'm helping Polk out by going over their web site's "advice" and "FAQ" sections, updating them and making sure everything is accurate. One of the articles, written by Paul D., referenced the RS meter. I've checked on their site and they don't seem to mention either the analogue or digital versions any more. A few Google hits about an Asian made meter, but it doesn't look as good as the RS.
Cheers, ken -

There are many "SPL meters" listed on Amazon that are designed for industrial and environmental use but they can be used for audio system testing as well. For audio use, getting one with "C weighting" is necessary. Some meters only have an A weighting setting. Radio Shack sold both analog and digital meters a few years ago and I picked an analog meter at the time based on advice that the digital meter of that time wasn't worth the extra money. There are at least a couple of companies marketing an analog meter that looks identical in function to the Radio Shack analog meter, but the prices are much higher than they used to be. If I was going to get a new one, I'd probably get a digital meter since there doesn't seem to be much of a price difference between them and analog anymore.

I own a few Radio Shack version Analog and digital as well as the Nady Model. The Nady is identical in every way except the name. They are both made by the same company or cloned very well.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Thanks for confirming that on the Nady model, Dan. Looks like they just jazzed it up with some yellow plastic instead of black plastic. The analog meters should last a long long time because they are so simple in function.

Perfect, that's exactly what I needed!

and just who is this "Paul D." you speak of ????? -
That would be "Polk" Paul, aka Paul DiComo.

"Nandy", would that be a knock-off "Tandy" aka Radio Shack?Stan
