As pointed out, if a TV dies shortly after its 1 year warranty there are big problem with that product. No one can tell me it is normal that it should cost you 500$ and up a year or 2 to own a TV. This is a good reason for keeping the trusted old technology around.
Good grief, products can and do fail all the time. A single unit failing doesn't automatically mean that the product, in general, is flawed. We can say with certainty that there's a problem with the failed unit and that's it. If you want to determine whether the product is flawed in general you need to figure out the failure rate. All electronics have failure rates.
You can piss and moan all you want about Vizio's so-called policy, but you need to recognize this article does nothing but reference ONE persons experience and makes vague mention to other reports around the internet. Hardly investigative journalism nor a tip off to a larger problem.
When dealing with complex technology, such as next generation TVs, there is more that can go wrong. That's a drawback of the feature rich age we want to live in. If you want to live in the stone age with TVs, have at it. Your arrogance about doing so by piggybacking on this article is coming off more like ignorance.As far as Polk, you omit to mention even their lowest priced speakers are 5 years warranty NOT 1 year (exception of powered amps which are 1 year). Polk too buys Chinese manufacturing but they at least have the decency to stand behind their product (even the very inexpensive one).

I'll tackle the comment that wasn't germane to the discussion first. If you buy a product it's incumbent on you to know what the warranty terms are. 1 year, 5 years, 100 years. It's the responsibility of the company to live up to their end of the bargain until the end of the warranty. It's your responsibility to know what you're buying. If a company wants to go the extra mile for PR sake, that's their prerogative. Companies like Vizio can't necessarily afford to do so, but other company's with wider profit margins can, but I digress...
None of Polk's speakers are sold at Walmart the last I checked.
The margins that a company like Vizio are running on and a company like Polk Audio is running on are totally different. Vizio's margins are much tighter, a result of gaining entry to discount retailers like Walmart. They make their money by selling massive volume and cutting in places where other companies invest. This only leads to success if the product you're making is not of poor quality.
If Vizio was making TVs en masse that couldn't last over a year as you appear to claim they're doing, they wouldn't be in business. One limp dick with a single bad experience does not a bad product or a bad company make. If Vizio is going down the tube with quality, we'll find out soon enough.
To bring it back home, Polk Audio puts more value into CS than does Vizio because they can afford to make that decision. If this was Polk Audio denying repair or replacement for out of warranty products that were 1, 5, or 100 years you'd be telling that customer to deal with it. That was the point that flew right over your head. -
Brownout causes the majority of TV defects and failures. I find that most people blame the TV when the problem actually resides in the customers' homes and is rarely noticed or detected. Most manufacturer warranties do not cover this because it is considered to be an external problem rather than a manufacturer defect.
