Logitech Touch/Lame

Ok i broke down and got one of these bad boys and i really dig it out of the gate.
Here's my question.It has a note about needing lame download for MP3's.
I am clueless on computer crap like this.
I did a download and i when i went to run it it asks if i want to apply to all my files.
Not knowing what this will do i bailed.
Can someone help me out here?

    LAME is an encoder. It can be used via command line to encode files, but it's more common to use a graphic front end with it. If you already have a library of .mp3 files you would like to stream, don't worry about it; you don't need LAME to do anything. If you want to rip files from CDs or down-convert lossless files, then you likely need to tell the squeezebox software where the LAME executable is located. Software rarely ships with an .mp3 encoder due to licensing costs, thus the need to download LAME.

    The only thing I'm aware that Squeezebox Server does with LAME is to transcode when you are streaming from the Squeezebox Server to a URL. It might also use LAME to transcode other formats to mp3 for playback. I'm not sure about applying to all files. It would be helpful to know how you are setting things up. What type of computer are you using? What format is your music in? Are you attempting iTunes integration? If I know that stuff, I can probably help you. I've been using squeezeboxes for a few years, and just recently got a Touch as well.

    When i set it up it brought all of the iTunes in and a few other downloads.
    I had to screw with it to get the HDTacks stuff in but it's in now.
    I have a Dell 530 and running a ethernet to the touch.
    As far as formats i have a little of everything mixed around.
    FLAC,ALAC,MP3,MP4,you name it.
    I haven't figured out how to get them all the same that will work on my OPPO so it's a mishmosh.

    Having trouble figuring out how to get my Winamp stuff into the Touch.Any help? Please?

    If you are converting mp3s to some other format, you should be aware, that you will actually be very likely to lose quality when you do that. For mp3s, where you have access to the original source, you should be ripping to FLAC, or ALAC.

    Playlists? or other audio files? It sounds like you may need to do some library consolidation as well.

    Audio Files i guess? They are playlists in the Winamp database.
