Been noticing a lot of the Adcom-GFA 6000 units on ebay, and AV-405 amps from Carver online. Almost pulled the trigger on a 6000 tonight till I called the vendor and found out that the power light is the only light that illuminates on the front panel. (The 6000 went for 164.50 plus 34.95 shipping - 204.45 total)

I have a limited budget, and would like to pick the collective Polkie brains on how your experience has been with either unit. Thanks.

    Also check audiogon.

I've owned both the Adcom 7000 and Carver 505 and both did a commendable job for movies. The Adcom was a little bright/edgy sounding but it was also a touch more dynamic. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong with either unit. And if you don't like them, you can easily get your money back.

As HT says, you should try to hear an Adcom and a Carver. Different sounding units there. As far as my 2 cents are concerned--the Adcom will give you fewer repair problems but I agree that it's a little brighter sounding which is fine for some set ups.

    Good Luck.
