The RTixxx line (RTi70, etc)...

The grill cloth on it picks up no hair, dust, etc - even when I sanded down my room (I had the speakers in the other room btw), the grills remained spotless. What did they do to them? I have had them about 8 months I guess now and I have not yet had to wipe them down? What kind of cloth is it?

My RT35i and RT5 had to be wiped down often.

Just curious if anyone knows exactly what they did......

I own 2 CSi30's, which have the same cloth as the RTi70's. I also have the R30's (which are sweet, BTW) which use a different cloth.

I think the RTi.. cloth is a looser weave. If I hold both grilles up side by side, more light passes thru the RTi.. grill cloth. If you press on the cloth from the RTi.. it seems to stretch more than on the R30's grill.

The RTi.. cloth also feels smoother than the R30 cloth. I'll bet this has more to do with the fact that nothing sticks to it than anything.

    Yeah and its SHINEY! (ARMOR-ALL)...hehe

Yeah, the smoothness might have something to do with it. I dunno, but it is a curious thing, my room is DUSTY, and it just dosnt pick anything up......

    Thanks for the reply

As a sidebar, Sid, I just noticed you have 3940 posts since March 2003. That is fantastic. How did you manage that? Do you have a small staff of ghost writers working 8 hour shifts, posting under your name? Just curious.

Disclaimer: The following is not true and is meant for entertainment only:

Matthew Polk is a smart and educated man. He set out to find the perfect speaker grill cloth. You could say it was his quest for the Holy Grill. Being educated in Boston, he was well aware of the fame of Martha Stewart who lived in nearby Connecticut. He sought Martha's advice. She suggested a nice cotton/polyester blend with 180 thread count. However Matthew realized that it was not acoustically transparent. So Martha suggested a loosly woven polyester double knit.

Mr. Polk settled on this fabric and found that it was almost totally transparent to sound. But he still had one problem. He had to protect his award winning speaker drivers from Armor-All and Pledge spray that some Polk owners are hell-bent on spraying around their speakers. So, off to NASA he went for more advice. They suggested a new Teflon formula just perfected by DuPont.

Matthew had found the Holy Grill. Attractive, acoustically transparent, repels Armor-All and Pledge. And, as a side benefit, it also repels dust!

I only pull this word out for snooty audiophile's or know it all CC/BB salespeople. "Transondent" speaker grills should always be transondent, meaning they add nothing to color or change the sound coming from the loudspeaker. Now I can add "Are these grills polka-electronegative transondent in their appearance and transparency?"

    LMAO
