My new Pioneer Elite VSX-23 just came today. Holy crap! the book is over 100 pages long! I thought Denon instructions were confusing, but this thing is wacky.
I know it has a lot more bells and whistles, but sheesh.
Anyway, does anyone know if the Volume can be changed from "Relative" to "Absolute" on one of these things? I cant find it anywhere, but every time I look through it I see something new.
I like to know where the volume is in a percentage type display. The relative means nothing to me as I don't really know where the dial is.

I'd like to know if you can change the volume display as well. Those manuals are novels; grab a cup of coffee and enjoy your new Elite.

Maybe someone can enlighten us. I have spent about ten hours with it and it is a significant upgrade.
The whole volume thing is pissing me off though. Oh well, I am sure I will get over it. -
Unfortunately there is no way to change it. I believe it goes from -80 to +12. After that, who knows. Mwahahaha.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Enjoy your new Elite. I'm VERY happy with mine. I skimmed the manual but eventually figured out what I needed by trial and error.
Now with that, to MY knowledge I dont know about any sort of volume display adjustments. Glowdr is correct about the volume range. Believe me when I say it gets plenty loud. I've touched +5 and even that was too much. I've read people say very good things about the stable output from this model and I'm sure you'll be very pleased. Sure makes my A9's pound... pound pound. -
Congrats and enjoy.engtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -

This is correct, the Pioneer Elite VSX-23 was my first Pio AVR. It was a great unit and it only made me want more of what Pioneer had to offer.
If you have any questions about this unit, I can help you. I have read the manual front to back for the VSX-23 and the SC-35 several times and still have the 23 downstairs because my friend who lives in the house bought it from me.Fronts: Polk RTi A9

I had my RTi A9's on the the VSX-23 first, but the setup that was with the 23 AVR the longest was four RTi8's and a CSi A6. Then moved to the SC-35. The VSX-23 amp is really sweet, but I never had it pass -6dB.Fronts: Polk RTi A9

As I said, I've only touched +5 once and it was on my old set of speakers. Most I've taken the A9's is to 0db. Even that was viciously loud. Regardless though, I've given instructions to the other half that under no circumstances to play the A9's more than -5db. I at least know they're safe.
I upgraded from a Yammy 5640 and the difference was night and day. I don't think I'll ever go back to Yammy. -
I'm curious to see how the new Elites stack up against the higher priced Yamaha receivers. My 2500 is pretty damn good. It's head and shoulders above the Harman Kardon AVR-340 it replaced. I'll be in the market for a new AVR by Christmas time and Pioneer will be on the top of my short list.Display: Sony 42" LCD

The new Yamaha Avantage AVR's have been making some headlines like the A3000.
I wouldn't count them out yet. If anyone should be able to make a proper sounding AVR, it should be one of the companies that make plenty of musical instruments, amps, etc for the audio industry.
I have giving them a try yet but I'm thinking I will use them soon or Marantz.Fronts: Polk RTi A9
