Spinning CD makes slightly audible noise

Can anyone hear the disc spin in their SACD/CD player? I have a Sony XA5400ES SACD/CD player for the last 2 1/2 years and love it. However, tonight I was listening to a new CD, The Viola in My Life by Morton Feldman, and realized I could barely hear the disc spinning. Some of the music on this is slightly above dead silence, and during this period I realized something didn't sound right. After getting up and putting my ear next to the CD player I realized it was the disc spinning. So, I took it out and will rip it to my music server for silent operation.
I'm playing another disc now, and hear nothing but music. Can it be an unbalanced disc, if that exists, making the noise?
Anyway, now I am debating sending the player in for repair. Being an ES piece of gear, it has a 5 year warranty. However, I don't want to spend the money shipping it only to have Sony tell me it is working as expected. Can anyone else hear the CD spinning during periods of silence?

i have heard it in cheap players before. But that was also a good 8+ years ago as well. I'll have to play a disc and try listen for it and report back.Living Room Rig:D

It may make that noise with all discs. Try turning off the amp while the cd is spinning in the Sony. This way there will be no music being heard and you can focus on listening to the player.
I did this last week and also heard an audible mechanical noise coming from my Oppo. It was so quiet that I could only hear it when I put my ear right in front of the player. I couldn't hear it at my listening chair. -
I've always been able to hear them spinning with my ear right in front of the player, can hear the seek noises as well. But if you can hear it from the listening position, with all discs, that's not normal, at least for the players I've had.

Some discs are slightly out of round and some transports are more sensitive to that. Replacing the disc often fixes the issue.Political Correctness'.........defined

I think this might be it. I tried another disk and it is dead quiet between tracks. I assume the disk spins during that time.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
