looking for an audio rack

Hi guys, yes it's me the pain in the **** w/ the former Yamaha>Adcom pre-out dilemma.I got to tell you after all the greif and back and forth I finally got it and it's wonderful. I posted early this morning on the sucess and now I have another minor issue.
2 of my pieces of gear are true 19in rack mt devices. I'm sure as hell keeping the Adcom so today's minor problem is where do you get a rack to mount this gear.The Adcom would be on the bottom then the Samson plug/surge pro is next
then all other stuff is regular shelf style.Right now I have a reclaimed old Sony wood rack and took off the door and it all fits but its showing it's age and it's not that flexable.I did look at the classifieds but no luck there so maybe someone can give me an idea.

Yes of course GOOGLE it listed about 50 sites of stores and i-net ordering houses. My paticular problem is that I have not seen an actual screw in mount type rack and then I still need regular shelves for my other gear. About the budget it can not be much I like dumster diving then refinishg or garage sale stuff, this is going to be a hard one to find.

You still never stated a budget. When I bought a rack for my 2-channel gear (1990s vintage, all Adcom except a Pioneer 6-disk CD cartridge changer) I did a 19" four-post rack that was (I believe) 40" high and 24" deep to allow for cable stowage, and used 1 rackmount adjustable-depth shelf for the CD changer and a second shallow one to hold extra cartridges. Besides the cost of the rackmount ears for the Adcom gear, I think I spent about $250 on the rack and shelves.
I can't remember where I bought it online, but it wasn't Middle Atlantic--their stuff was too expensive. After searching for a while I found a place that sold their racks as basically a DIY/knockdown kit -- you could order almost any height and depth in increments of either 2" or 1U, and I also got casters on the bottom. If I can still access the e-mails I'll try to figure out the name of the site.
Depending on what height you need and whether MDF is acceptable, this (Middle Atlantic 12U RK12) might be acceptable for $140 shipped. 1U is 1.75", so 12 rack units (12U) gives 21" of space for your components. You could just stack all the non-rackmount gear at the bottom, and rackmount the Adcom stuff near the top. Note that because of the way the screws work in rackmount gear, you may lost up to an inch between mounted components in order to get the screw holes to line up. If you need a taller one, look on the Middle Atlantic site to figure out the part number and then Google for that.

I see in your post you said you have true 19" rack mount equipment. Like true screw in type rack mount stuff? is all your pieces 19" or screw in? For my sunfire sig, its 19" and I also had a hard time finding a rack that was not $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that it would fit on. Some of the racks that measured out 19-20 across, the back after the cable management pieces were in place wouldnt fit with speaker cables or it would but up against the back of them. I wound up finding something with a turntable shelf on top and put it on it at frys. For a true 19" screw type rack, check computer sections of craigs list or places that have used av / pro av / server racks. they would have the 19" screw in type ( metal)Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
If you are into DIY Allied electric sells rack struts for $100 - $200 depending on length that can be attached to just about any box you can come up with allowing for easy attachment of rack mount devices!Enjoying the journey while never attaining the destination.
