Hi,
do you have any suggestions for some material that is good at gripping to put between the speaker stand and speaker?
it's for temporary setup, so I don't want to use Blu Tac.
thanks

You could use the rubber-grid stuff they sell to line kitchen/bath drawers.

It's cheap, you can cut it easily to fit the size of the speaker + stand, and it has decent grip while keeping it temporary. The pics even show it being used to keep a cell phone on the dash of a car.
I've never used Blu Tac, but I always thought that stuff was designed to be easily removable? -
Go to Wal-Mart. In the paper, notebooks....school supplies area. Look for packs of thin dark brown cork. Cut to fit the top of your stand, secure with a few drops of hot glue.--Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out. -
both are great ideas. they are low cost items and both worth a try. I will pick some up! maybe sandwich the 2 for some decoupling?
too bad there is no standard for monitor speaker mounting threads and speaker stands, there should be like VESA tv mounts. -
I use the cork "dots" on my stands---works well (grips) and doesn't mess with the finish on my speakers. They're adhesive backed and come in a number of diameters.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Source: Rotel CD14MkII CD Player - Speakers: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

+ 2 om the soft rubber tool drawer liner. I went a step futher and have used 3m auto rubberized window/ weather stripping adheasive to mount the Craftsmen drawer liner to all of my stands. The spkr will not slide at all and is completely decoupled from the stand. I have no intention of removal so I used the strongest bond I could find.

that grid stuff is great but I used it on a pair of homebuilt moniter 5's it ended up etching the finish badely I would have to refish them, next time I will try the cork .. -

I use a Loctite Fun-Tak. It is remarkable similar to a product the OP doesn't want to use and can be found at Wal-mart for about $2.
