Or someone else's that you don't even know GBD. It must be a teething thing.
 -
Actually what I read Bob said that while they may make some difference(power cords) I like to hard wire because I feel it's a better connection as opposed to the IEC connection that may have a sloppy fit after a while.or something like that it was in one of my audio mags a year or so back
That has always been my thoughts on IECs in addition to another avenue for RF interference to be received. It's my belief that those things were developed for the sake of transport & packing ease.......and subsequent cable/cord sales due to misplaced ones. -
I've found most IEC connections and sockets to be snug depending on the manufacturer but others to be flat out loose when it comes to fitment. This is a big concern to me from a user standpoint, sonically speaking let alone from an electrical one.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

For connections..........solder is KING!

Yeah thats why you solder the IEC connector to the power wires from the power supply. If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother. -

Yes.....and if you also solder the cord into the socket......... -
Well, hell. Why not go up and solder the transformer leads while you are at it? While you are up there, go ahead and install some Magic Pebbles. Just don't solder the circuit breaker or there may be trouble you may not expect.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

How about we let Bob build the amps the way he likes them? The Gear... Did someone pee in yer cornflakes this AM ??
 -
No, not at all. I just find it funny that someone who is still highly regarded in the build design of tube amps gets scrutinized with just that, down to the nitty gritty. Most folks who have chimed in so far, probably could not afford this amp in the first place. Hence the humor on my part.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. It's a helluva amplifier, that's for sure. It is neat that he started doing this as they are really unique...statement pieces.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm just glad for him as he is having the time of his life, self admitted. Not having to deal with the corporate aspects and just concentrating on the love of his life. Building tube amps for the fun of it.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? Not too bad for a "rube" !  Although.....they probably have that "inherent flabby bass" ! JK JK

I'd like to hear Stereophile's review on this one.........~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

yea like he knows nothing about that:biggrin:
if he built it and it had a coat hanger that i had to stick into the socket and it shocked me everytime i plugged it in if it sounded good I'd probably by it...
