Changing out Preamp

I'm using a Pioneer 1120 as a preamp/processor right now, and am thinking about changing it out. I've been looking at the Marantz 5005, mainly because I like Audyssey better than Mcacc, I can adjust the crossovers for each speaker and sub separately (HATE that pioneer won't let me do that) and partly just out of curiosity. Does anyone think there will be any sonic benefits to switching? I've always heard about the warm marantz sound and how nice they are, i'm just wondering since i'm just using it as a processor if i'll hear any difference? I'd look into other ones but I need 3D and preouts so I can't find anything used.

I tried out the 6005 and liked it quite a bit more than the non-Elite Pioneer sound. In the end I wound up going with a NAD T747 as a preamp/processor but I could have lived with the 6005. For me, the sound was "warmer and more laid back" and a step up from the Pioneer sound. You will definitely hear a difference. Whether you like it or not is a pretty individual thing.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

Right on, thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure how much the sound would be affected because I wasn't using the amplifier section but I think i'll be happier with it, and if nothing else at least i've got Audyssey and a few more processing options. I think the only downside is i'll be losing the Marvell chip and going to Faroudja for video processing, but almost everything I run is in 1080p anyways so it shouldn't be an issue.

Actually, if you go with the Marantz SR-5005 you should be going to the Anchor Bay ABT-2015 chip.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

You're right, I've been looking at so many lately I can't remember which one is which. Thanks again.
