Artwork for digital music files

Some of you have said that artwork doesn't matter to you, but when I play back my digital music (whether it be on my Squeezebox, my Android phone, my iPod, or my car), I like the cover art to be displayed.

So, what's the best way?

Should a cover image be embedded in the tag of each song on an album? Does it work if you just drop one copy of the image in a folder with all the songs ("folder.jpg" format)?

What size do you prefer? What resolution? My current library has artwork embedded in almost every song file, and in some cases, this amounts to as much as 200-300 kb per song... I wonder if this is necessary? Then again, I hate when a crappy image shows up, and then I realize it's because it was only like 10 kb or so...

    I'm the same way.

I use Tag&Rename to tag every album. I know for sure that it writes the 'folder.jpg' to album folder, but I also check "save art" button so I think in my case it's doing both. In the car via my iPod, the album art shows up on the car's HU.

I think most of the album art is 300 x 300 or 500 x 500. But both look fine on iPeng, the SB Touch, and the car's Pioneer LCD.
    Dali Optikon 1Mk2
    NAD D3020 V2
    Schiit Bifrost 2/64

    ..the rest are headphone setups.

Yep, my old iPhone stays connected to my Pioneer HU now... I love it. Got a Squeezebox Duet, and getting a SB Touch soon, too. I like how my digital collection is everywhere!

I was thinking of standardizing on 500x500.
