Is it safe to say that Single ended designs are more sought after by audiophiles?

Would single-ended SS render a more tubey sound?

Yes and no to the first one, it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish and the associated gear and room. Single ended tube designs are lower power.

Most definitely in my experience, but it's hard to generalize like that for the second one as designs vary. There are very few *true* single ended SS designs on the market. Many are variations that borrrow that term and use it loosely. A pure single ended design does have a lot of what tubes bring to the table. But the down fall is lower power (unless you want to spend big $$$) and lots of heat.....also may have difficulty running inefficient power hungry speakers to the level desired.

I'm a bit confused. Halo was just trying to say, research a little bit, thats all.

This hobby has a ton of different way you can go regarding gear. Right now I would do as Tony pointed out, and list a budget that your comfortable with. This would be the budget for your speakers, amp, pre (or reciever) cables and source (cd player or turntable).

Once you have a budget set up, you can then decide how you allocate the funds to what thing. Such as, you determine how much you want to spend on the speakers, then the source, and your amp. Being new to this, I would probably say stick with something simple for now, things to you that you understand and go from there.

Also your room size and everything play into this as well. Such as A9's are more suited for a larger room and more of a HT application. LSI 7's are a better match in a smaller room and would be great for music. You could always then get a sub to fill in the bass and be well on your way and it would be a great start.

    Heck even do LSI 7's
    Polk MP2000
    Adcom 535 or even better
Pre amp such as a Peachtree etc are awesome as well as they would have a single tube as well as provide digital inputs. You could use it as just an amp or do the pre outs into the amp for more power etc.
add a nice rotel CDP and you have a good start of a system for not a ton of coin.

Thanks for the information, as one of the members mentioned earlier, I will start a new post on that subject. Yes, I am new to this and really am learning as I go. I really don't know how to go about doing alot of this stuff you others have been doing for a lifetime, but I need to start somewhere. I think we all started with no knowledge.

Check the Jolida site out. The JD303 is a decent amp (for its current 999 price) among others.

But there are many other choices ABOVE as well.

OK, there are 'two'. But .net is in Shenda outside of Shanghai and this is the plant where all Jolida products, especially all the JD-100 CDPs some of you own were manufactured. Manufacturing and design was always done by this Jolida location. The Maryland location was a 'distributor' of Jolida in China in the U.S.

I'm not trying to take sides here and it's not a Polk Audio affair. But I was at the plant in China last year, and as far as I know, no one else here was?

So my suggestion is enjoy the product while you can and U.S. courts will work this out? Prices are back up to normal as of Feb 28th.

And let the U.S. courts decide. I realize that China claims are not 'popular' in the U.S. And as a Sinologist I can 'understand' why. Enough said.

No harm, no foul. Just a disagreement.

That's what they say on their site? Personally, I was told..March? But I guess that makes sense since March 1st follows the 28th?
