I'm as much a gamer as an HT enthusiast and I'm always willing to play games with great sound.

With that being said, Bioshock and MGS4 were must plays just due to their sound tracks.

Is best sound referring to music or sound effects? I found that the Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 has good sound effects as well as the Battlefield Bad Company 2 video game.

    Both I presume.

Haven't had the chance to try either yet. But i'm pleasantly surprised by Heavy Rain if anyone has played that.

Halo: Reach does have some fantastic surround. Even in the menus, they did a great job of placing ambient sounds of battle all around you (which is something previous Halo games lacked, honestly). I actually used that when I was evaluating whether I preferred my FXi30s in dipole or bipole mode.

Far Cry 2 has some of the best gun sounds, but Call Of Duty: Black Ops is a close contender for that. Some of those guns make you feel like your speakers are gonna blow when you fire them. Very nice!

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 had the best use of localizable surround, in that it was very easy to hear exactly where shots were coming from around you... to the point of giving you a nice advantage over people only playing in stereo.

As far as cinematic sound goes, however, nothing recent beats Mass Effect 2. From the score to the voice acting to the battles, just a fantastic sounding game to crank up loud on a good surround system. People who aren't enjoying that game in a home theater are really missing out.

Red Dead Redemption. When a thunderstorm rolls in, my PSW505 really amazes. :) I usually just sit out on the open plains and listen to it, doing nothing else. Having played both, it seems to sound better on PS3, as do most games (in my experience). Does anyone else have any input on the sound of PS3 vs. Xbox 360?

PS3 has the potential to sound better than the 360, but I would say other than first party developers, no one else really takes advantage of it.

Games like Uncharted aren't compressed, and usually take advantage of the 7.1 capabilities of the PS3. Games like the COD franchise most likely use the same soundtrack on the PS3 as they do the 360.
