Netflix or Blockbuster

I have preferred walking into Blockbuster and touching the movies and the cases that I rent. But the selection is getting weak. I have used both NF and BB mail service and here is my question.

When I would selected a TV series, say Season 2 of The Wire, BB would put all of the discs in my queue and I could not determine a way to put other selections ahead of all discs from the season.

My memory is that NF let you select one disc at a time.

NF doesn't charge for HD but BB dwoes, right?

Anybody help me out here....I'm off work today and trying to solve my most critical problems.

    NF does charge a premium for BR discs, it's not much but there is a charge.

    I don't know about BB, but NF allows you to order your discs however you want, I'd think that BB has the same functionality.

    Netflix charges a small fee to rent out Blu Ray Movies. Blockbuster does NOT.

    As for re-ordering your queue, make sure when you enter the "number" you want in order for your movies, you click "update" or "save."

    Netflix allows you to have your queue however the way you like it. When I did Blockbuster, I remember being able to do so as well.

    thx...it seems the services are only slightly different...I now remember that NF charged for BR but that BB did not have streaming when I was looking into it (maybe 6-9 months ago).

    I think it varies depending on how many movies you have out at a time. I have 2 at a time and it's $3 for me.

    I've used both. Even though Netflix has by the far the better selection (esp if you're into more esoteric titles), Blockbuster has free Blu-Ray and free game rentals. So I chose to go with the latter...

    I can't speak for turnaround in that I used Netflix in Louisville and Blockbuster in Atlanta.
    I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down.     I'm signing up now, and it looks like they don't tell you about the HD fees until you pick a plan....sheees....

    Blockbuster is now offering rentals on video games also. Another advantage Blockbuster has over Netflix is that you can rent new DVD releases. Netflix signed a deal with ___ (not sure who) and does not allow their customers to rent new releases until a month after. They do this because they think it will help DVD sales.

    Nowadays when you drive around, it seems like a Blockbuster store is closing. Blockbuster will become an online only corporation like Netflix. But even so, Redbox is hurting Netflix.

    I'm sure streaming will come to Blockbuster once all their stores close.

    Also heard or read (may be this forum) that Netflix in a couple of years will be getting rid of the DVD and only provide streaming. Of course, there will people who dislike it, but if you think about it, isn't everything becoming digital downloaded?

    Reason I went with Netflix instead of Blockbuster was because of the quick turnaround time on shipping my DVD to me. For me, Blockbuster took almost 3-4 days to send out my new movie. That's just my experience, it always help there's a Netflix building in Carol Stream, IL (I live 30 minutes away from that city)

    I use my Tivo for streaming and Amazon is great for streaming. Their prices are sometimes better that BB and Amazon.

    Are you serious? Some joker at BB told me that they have 30,000 titles when NF only has 10,000. Grrrr.

    Yeah, Netflix is extremely quick with mail-in movie turnaround times.

    I got 3 movies out at a time and BR is $4 extra...a bit misleading compared to the FAQ response...especially when they don't tell you until AFTER you have signed up.

    This is my 4th time signing up and I think they still gave me the free trial.

    I don't know. Maybe they have more stock. I just know I can find a lot more psychedelic werewolf nunsploitation titles on Netflix. Point being.... if you tend to get a hankerin' for some of the more "out there" movies or shows, Netflix will almost always come through. There have been numerous occasions where I've wanted to get something that Blockbuster doesn't carry, but happened to be on Netflix. However, the free Blu Ray and games trumps that for me.

    Also... even though I've used both services in separate locales, I found Netflix to be MUCH quicker in their turnaround. I just didn't think it would be fair to point that out considering the differing circumstances.

    Yeah. Reminds me of the old BMG and Columbia House music services. I think I built my entire tape collection through those as a child.

    One thing you might want to consider if you are a Comcast customer is dvds by mail. I think that you get a discount if you are a double or triple play customer. I believe it also allows you to watch some of the movies through on demand. You can check it out at http://www.dvdsbymail.com/. This is a partnership between Comcast and Blockbuster.

    You may wish to check this site it reviews several services. Netflix has 17,000 titles available compared to BlockBusters 2,000. Amazon has the most with 50,000.

    I use both...

    Netflix for most everything but sometimes Blockbuster when a new release hits. No reason you cannot use both, after all, Blockbuster does not charge a monthly fee.
    If...
    Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
    Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

    Yeah but out of 17,000 titles, how many do you really want to see ? Kinda like cable channels, you have 250 channels but only watch 10. I would much prefer an ala carte menu so I don't pay for stuff I don't need or won't watch. If I could stream a movie for lets say a buck a pop, I could then pick the movies I want to watch. If I only watch 3 movies a month, then I want to pay 3 bucks,not seven. If you watch 10 movies a month, you pay 10 bucks. Wish cable and streaming worked that way.

    I use Blockbuster. The main deal-breakers for Netflix for me personally were:

    1) delays of new releases
    2) i can't exchange in-store for free like i can with Blockbuster.

    So far the only title that i haven't been able to get in a reasonable amount of time with Blockbuster is a really obscure skiing documentary.
    I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.
