Matching surround speakers

HI there, this is my very first post so please excuse me if I ask something that is kind of dumb but here she goes anyways. I'm building my first HT setup. After going through 3 "Home theatre in a boxes" and bring them all back cause they were basically low quaility junk, I decided to build my own. Anyways, I started out with a used but working great JVC RX 884VBX. Since I am feeding my LCDTV with my SAT and BLU RAY, I felt it was not necessary to purchase an HDMI receiver. I'll let the TV select the source input and output to the jvc receiver via digital optical for audio. Went out and bought the RTiA3's. Wow! Totally impressed with the sound quality. I ordered the CSi3 for the center and a PSW111 for the sub. My question is, since I have the RTiA3's for the fronts, would I be shooting myself in the foot if I bought the RTi4's for the rear surround speakers? They are considerably smaller then the fronts and wattage wise a little less. Is this an unbalance for the amp?Reason for doing so is to keep cost down (they are only $150). Also, Right now I am only using the fronts in stereo mode. When I do hook up the rest, do the fronts get a considerable amount of less wattage? According to the amp specs it's 120W in stereo mode or 110x5 in surround. How can the amp give 110W RMS min to 5 channels but only 120 to 2? Obviously from a logical standpoint, thats impossible cause the amp only uses 310W when operating. What gives?

The RTi4's will match up very well with the A3's and the current price can't be beat. Great Bang for the Buck....I have 4 of them for surrounds. Your amp should be fine. When using stereo you are only using 2 of your 5 amps. When 5 amps are being used its unlikely it will be called upon to deliver 5 X 110 watts at any one time anyway.

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!!

That's pretty much what I run in my basement on a Pioneer AVR. Two RTi-A3s a CSi-3 and two Rti-4s in the back--only 5.1. And it sounds very very good indeed. You won't notice anything missing with the smaller bookshelf in the back, your SUB will take care of that.

    And xcapri is right above.

    Enjoy.

Thanks for all the great info, all of my questions were answered! Unfortunately, since the time I posted this, the Rti4 went out of stock at future shop! They were there all week, just my luck. I did not think they would last long at $150 a pair.:frown:

Future shop may get those RTi4's back in. They had them on their site ON and OFF for awhile now. They usually restock them.

    +1

You must be my evil twin ....I had the same setup for speakers and was in a very happy place for quite awhile.

RTiA3s fronts with RTi4 surrounds is a sweet combo.
