Spinning CD's, looking for stuff I haven't heard in a while. Found SIX unopened CD's in the rack, still in cello.
Checked the vinyl just for gigs, 3 unopened.
None of which I have bought in the past, say 2 months at least. None are collectables or dups that I was saving or preserving. Am I alone in this behavior? Does anyone else PUT UP a cd/lp in the rack, shelf, what have you without even opening it?
Cheers,
Russ

Yeah, I find sealed vinyl pretty regularly. I usually put stuff I buy in a pile to clean, then as I find used stuff, that goes into the pile too. Then I end up with a mix of new and used in one pile, and eventually, I find the stuff I put in that pile 6 months ago and forgot about. Then I repeat the entire process.
And now you made me look... Sealed Nirvana, Beach Boys, and G'N'R. And last weekend, I took some sides over to a friend's, and found a sealed Dave McKenna Trio album that, apparently, I bought many years ago, judging from how long ago the store that the price label says I bought it from closed down.Turntable: Empire 208

Yeah, a couple, much like you....nothing rare or worth anything. Weird as I don't remember why I never listened to them.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I have a version of the same problem. As soon as I buy a CD I open it and rip it into a music server. Maybe one track will go into a play list. It's always a pleasant surprise when I go scavenging for something to listen to that I'm not tired of and find a CD's worth of music I forgot I bought.

I have a stack of about 6 SACD's yet to be opend...several "new" LPs courtesy of Mr. Grand...and another 3-4 unopened redbook CDs.
DVDs are another story...maybe a 100+ (maybe even more). I've been building a DVD library for quite some time and I just don't have time to watch them all. I WILL though...they are part of my retirement plan..."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I have several unopened vinyl LP's. Metallica's Death Magnetic, AC/DC Flick of the Switch 180grm remaster, Pearl Jam's Back Spacer, The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights, Rob Zombie Hillbilly Deluxe II, Wolfmother Cosmic Egg. All of those and a few more I can't remember are just because I haven't gotten around to it yet. Then I have a couple somewhat rare ones that I may or may not ever open. Two I found at a giant garage sale a couple of years ago, The Beatles Meet The Beatles and The Beatles Reel Music. Both unopened. The Meet The Beatles is a 2nd release and should be worth a few bucks and Reel Music is an official Beatles release first pressing 50 cents each!! One of the latest ones I bought was to complete my U2 collection...Pop. It cost me around $60 but they sell new on ebay for over $100 regularly. I bought an unopened original Rod Stewart Gasoline Alley off George a while back but I opened it and played it as soon as it was in the house. I know I have more but that's all that comes to mind.SDA-1C (full mods)

Yup... Assuming I can still find it after my move, I even have the original sales receipt from Finger's Furniture in Houston, TX.Are you serious, bro?
I ran across one of those a few months ago at a record store here. Used and they were asking 800.00 for it.
IIRC in Spring of '83 they were clearing out their remaining stock for $279 + tax. They had maybe 15 or 20 sets left; two were still sealed; one was in perfect condition. And, yes, I wish I'd bought one or two more sets.
I wanted to upgrade my Dual 1229 TT/ Shure M91ED cartridge before the set's debut, but did not do that for a several years. By the time I did upgrade, I had an investment... I ended up buying a used set on ebay a few years ago.
BION, sealed sets are not that rare. Most months one will pop up on ebay... But for $800 you can't even break the seal...
More later,

I have probably 18 or so unopened LP's. Half a dozen Elvis, Genesis, Johnny Cash, Asia, and others. Whats worse is what I have building up in the sorting room. 8 or so boxes from GG with more on the way, some from friends, etc...

That sorting room isn't near full yet. Thank heaven.

No it isn't, thank goodness. Although, I have run out of room in the bookcase. It is forcing me to get the man cave finished. And luckily, the wife doesn't care.Wazzup with the Ray Coniff?
I guess I should have covered that with something else.
Actually, those are for my parents. About 6 months ago they pulled their turntable out of the box and started listening to their old lps again. Mom says, "the cd's just don't sound as good". I sent them a couple mofi cleaning brushes, an antistatic brush, stylus cleaner, and mofi one step cleaning fluid.
So in the mean time, I have been trying to gather up some lps for them. They are into Ray Coniff, Nat king Cole, Frank Sinatra, Herb Alpert, Glenn Miller, Carpenters (me too!), etc...
I guess it is a good thing that the old Jim Nabors stuff is farther back in the stack.
