I just got a copy of Tom Petty's Mojo album on bluray audio.
It is outstanding.
The guitars are so crisp and clean, the bass nad percusion are punchy.
I am totally impressed.

I have not dug into this topic yet but I have heard it talked about. SACD and DVD AUDIO fell on their faces for the general public , this will probably do the same as the general public doesn't seem to put as much stock into high quality audio as they do with video.

I hate this but it's fact. As being Blu ray format and not having to buy a "special" player I can see this at least surviving for a while. I hope many artists realize that this can really show off their music in great detail.

I long for something like this to have all the artists I enjoy listening to.

The beauty of blu-ray for audio is that there is no special format needed to support DVD-Audio two-channel quality all the way from two channels to 7.1 channels. It's the same high resolution PCM. DTS-HD MA and TrueHD just losslessly compress and uncompress the PCM to make it fit in a smaller footprint.

So artists just have to invest in mastering their stuff to play in lossless audio. Every blu-ray player is already a high resolution audio player so mass adoption of the hardware is already taking place.

The DTS-HD 5.1 soundtrack included in the Inception Special Features bluray disc is a good example of how good Bluray audio sounds.

So this will only play on a BR player and not a regular redbook player? Or will it play on both like some of the sacd's?

Blu-ray lossless will not play in a regular CD player as both the lossless format and the blu-ray disk are incompatible. It would have to have a separate CD bundled instead. However, from the link above, there appears to be a digital copy download available with the purchase.

I purchased Mojo from amazon.ca for around $26.00.
It only plays on bluray player.
I agree it has great that you don't need to buy a special bluray player to play it.
The packaging states that disc has 256 times more resolution than a regular CD.

I suspect it is just getting started. Neil Young is currently redoing all his music in Bluray. The first set has been released, and hopefully will soon release the rest. While it is on other formats, that is more of a nod to their existence. Bluray is the main reason for his effort.

I sure hope Sony releases a player to replace the XA5400ES that also supports Bluray along with SACD. Getting the high res Bluray files out the balanced stereo outputs into the two channel system will be pure heaven.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

which make perfect sense... the old DVD-Audio format began the same way.. a good amount of the music released was classical - must be a good market there.
