Could not find anything on point, but I am now trying to decided between Monitor 70's or Energy RC-50's.

Use would be about 80% movies, 20% music. I will adust the center channel to whatever line I decided.

Does anyone have any experience with the Energy's? The Kevlar Cones are intriguing. Back in the day I had a pair of Kevlar bookshelves that I really liked.

    Hi Klegg.

This has come up already so you might want to take a look at this thread!

Hope it helps some. But in the end you should always rely on your own audition because few of us hear the exact same thing the same way. Our tastes and preferences vary and, thus, our gear.

    Good Luck...

Thank you for the link. How I missed that thread is a mystery.

I wish someplace near me had the energy's. Living in the woods has disadvantages.

I ended up ordering RC-70s off the web when some more unexpectedly went on sale. They arrived yesterday in perfect condition. since I noticed there was interest in these in other threads I thought I would post my early impressions on them, and how they work with a CS2 center and M 40 surrounds. The RC series does not sound anything like energy's current line up at all (they sound sooo much better) so these were a leap of faith based on fond memory's of Kevlar cone speakers I had back in the day(and the incredible price).

Really attractive in an understated way. Very impressive build quality. Real wood veneer Love the gloss base. The magnetic grills are neat.

    They are HEAVY!!

Not burned in, and at playing at medium volumes, but first listen...WOW!

My HT room is the top floor of a cape cod, lots of angles and I suspect not acoustically an ideal setting.Set up AVR (VSX-1020)on large with Sub off. Played selections off comcast music channels. First few songs were classic rock (Rush, Floyd, Stray Cats). Then some harder selections, Rob Zombie, Foo fighters. Nice bass (again not at high levels yet) in my 16 x 17 room (Carpet and furniture). Do not have bass plugs in. Did not use the floor spikes.

Guitar on a blues selection (live Albert King) was very impressive. Nice sound-field, guitar sounded great (I play a bit so I have a frame of reference). Actually think they handled the blues selection the best. Had one bad moment with a Muddy Waters track...then realized it was from 1955. You could clearly hear this was not exactly a great recording, which I think says a lot about these.

Set AVR to small and turned on sub (BICF12) Change to tone for sure, but not in a bad way at all. Maybe a tad crisper...now a bit of boom noticeable on Stray Cats. Pretty sure that is the sub. Odd, but Melivns "Lizzy" was not as boomy.

Have had very limited time with movies. The combo with the Polk Center is not offensive. No point comparing the 40s to these as mains, But the Polks are working well as surrounds.

Where did you get the 70's? I was desperately trying to get some but ended up buying the 50´s Anyway thanks a lot for your feedback, the 50´s should have a similar sound.

What do you think about the CS2 combination? Currently I have the CS10 but might have to upgrade the center soon.

They went on sale at Buy.com last week. Sold out in about 15 min. I was really lucky to be on the right forum at the right time to catch the sale. I had almost purchased the 50s two weeks ago. But got called away form the computer and never did put the order in.

CS2 is not offensive, but there is a noticeable difference. I have not heard the CS10 no I have no frame of reference for the sound. I will probably end up with an LCR before they are sold out.

I suspect the 50's will sound similar. Reviews have been positive. If they sound boomy do not forget the bass plugs.
