I have a gentleman coming over to audition my SDA's and he has a Niles SI-275. He wants to come over tonight and bring his amp (cause I am ampless) he hasn't been able to get ahold of Niles over the past few days cause of the holiday to find out if it's common ground.

Anyone know?

I have to be blunt. Niles amps suck bad for HiFi. If you need to get by with one just take a multi meter and measure across the grounds on the speaker terminals. If you get next to no resistance then it is common ground.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Thanks Ben. You'll probably laugh because of your knowledge, but could you give me more instruction (is amp on, setting on MM to use)?

Sorry. Nothing hooked up to the amp. Unplugged. Take and measure the resistance across the ground terminals on the amps speaker outs.

What setting should I use on the multi-meter? Ohms? 10,100,more setting?

Sorry, I own one but don't know how to use it.

    Thanks again...

Set the meter on the lowest setting. If it doesn't read at a low setting it is not common ground.

Okay, I decided to dig out an old reciever I have (Lafayette) and hooked it up to the 2 negative terminals on speaker outs with the unit on. I had my MM set on Ohms, at the 200 setting (the lowest). It starts higher, but drops down instantly to waiver between 1.2-2.2.

Does this sound like I'm in the right territory for common ground?

    Thanks again...

You don't even need to do that. Check for continuity between the negative binding posts....if you have it, common ground, if you don't....you don't.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I think I checked that too? There is a ground setting on my MM with a buzzer and light. I connected the two negative terminals and the buzzer and light went off. How's that sound?
