We may need a 2nd Blue Ray player in our household after my man-cave theater is finished. I see an opportunity to get into SACDs. Does one of these exist for under 500ish? Pioneer, Oppo, or Sony possibly?

What kind of setup are you planning/needing for the 2nd player? HDMI only, multichannel analog, 2-channel only?

I think this is very possible. The Oppo will be more than adequate, and its running at $499 (can be found cheaper though)

You can probably find something for half that price, but that depends on what setup you've got and what you will find as "important" for your mancave

Sony's newer lines play sacd's also. I don't know the playback quality though but you can find them for less than half the price of the Oppo. Look at the 70 series sony bluray players. 470,50,770 etc.

I guess HDMI to my AVR and then 2 channel to my pre for SACD palyback...if I understood your q correctly. I think running it to my AVR for SACD palyback would defeat the purpose.

Interesting...I think I would rather spend closer to the 500 limit if it meant getting a better quality SACD player out of it. How does the Oppo compare in Blue Ray performance vs. say my current S-350?

Strictly speaking BR picture quality- There isn't much difference between a $60 Wal-Mart special, or a $4000 custom carved player made from wood.

You're paying for audio and upconversion (which neither I can really give any true to life examples on, since the Oppo is my first BRP)

I have the S-570 and the PQ on Blu-Rays are very good. In regards to the SACD it does well too but I'm sure there are plenty better players SACD out there.
