Sunfire Theater Grand Processor static in front right channel. What can it be?

Hey guys.
I hope someone can give me some direction here. My Sunfire pre/pro developed static in the right front channel. The signal is still there, just with static. I tried rca and xlr inputs but its there on both. switched through all the dsp's and settings, still there. So I'm thinking it might be the ouput? i don't know.
What can I check? I can take the cover off and snap some pics if that's helpful.

Hello newrival, are you 100% sure it's that and not a connection, speaker, crossover or source issue? May want to eliminate other possible suspects before you go diving into something that may not have an issue.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. sunfire did offer to help... for $475 plus $150 shipping. They said regardless of diagnosis, they would only replace the board and ship it back, even if something just needed to be cleaned.design is where science and art break even.

I'm 99.9% sure. I've tried different speakers and still got static. Used a different wall outlet, different inputs, same problem.design is where science and art break even. -
Have you swapped L & R inputs going from the source?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

ummmm, i dont think i've tried that. but i did try different sourcesdesign is where science and art break even.

Well, if different sources didn't change anything then it seems that you have diagnosed which component correctly. Have you tried Deoxit on all external connections and the volume pot yet? Also, the speaker cable connections may have been compromised.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? thanks. I'll look into that tonight. I'll get some deoxit and get the cover off and see if there is anything to see

You are welcome. Please make sure that the unit is unplugged and all Deoxit is dry before plugging back in. It sounds like a connection gone bad somewhere and "usually" it is a relatively simple fix. Keep us posted on the results and have a good evening.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? did you switch the output of the right front to the left channel of your power amp??? i.e. reversing left and right inputs on the front channel inputs of the power amp to see if the static moved to the left front speaker.
That would isolate whether it's the pre/pro or the power amp connecxtion.

I'm hoping Tom's advice on the Deoxit will help. I pulled the cover off and quickly realized that I'm not going to be of much use in there with all the integrated circuits and surface mounted processors. It all looks really clean and i checked out the alignment of the connections to make sure theres no chance for it to be open, and it all looked ok. I'm going to track down some deoxit and squirt it in there and hope for the best! Beyond that, I'm afraid Santa may be out of funds for the winter. But who knows, I have been awfully good  hehehedesign is where science and art break even. -
I haven't found deoxit yet. However I have done some more experiments to find out at which stage the static is occurring. T Initially I thought it was happening at the output since it was showing up through every input. his seemed to be confirmed due to wiggling the output cables and being able to cause some louder static. However, this turned out to be an anomaly and has been unreproducible. I got to thinking about how the the Holography DSP and how it works much like SDA in that it sends a portion of one channel to its pair on either side and vice versa. I turned it on holography and low and behold, a faint static in the left channel where there wasnt before. This tells me that it's not the output and is somewhere between input and DSP. I imagine there are a few stages in between with these processors, but at least I feel like I've narrowed it down a little bit.
Given this info, are there any new recommendations? How should I apply the Deoxit? Should I just spray the whole board down? replace fuses? Any help is appreciated.design is where science and art break even. -
Deoxit should really only be sprayed inside any pots, sparingly.TNRabbit
