The ps3 is a great up to date 2D player. And can be used for 3D movies and games. However, the lack of lossless audio when viewing 3D movies is a big limitation and has the ps3 starting to show its age IMO. So I'm not sure you can say it will never be outdated. Firmware updates and beefy general processors can only make up for so much when it comes to a lack of specialized new hardware.

I didn't catch that. Is the lack of loseless audio with the fat and the slim or just the fat?

It was widely reported for the firmware update that enabled 3D. So I took it to be a hardware limitation on both when playing 3D movies.

What do you want to bet that in 3-4 years we'll have 3D TVs with no glasses?

This is right on. There are already 3d displays without glasses, and the tech. just needs refinement. Whether this will start another tech battle, I don't know. Currently, 3d BD is far better quality and resolution (I don't think glasses-less 3d has yet acieved 720p), and in order to get the 3d effect sans-glasses you have to be in one of 6 specific viewing angles.

In 4 years your 3D player you buy today will probably not work anyway since we will have HDMI 1.9 by then.

Unlikely. I realize youre exaggerating for emphasis, But if you can support HDMI1.4, or 1.3 for that matter, you will likely be good for a number of years. 1.3 can do everything 1.4 can except for the added ethernet channel. If you're not concerned with networking then no big deal to even have 1.4. The bandwidth is there to support 1920x1200p @ 60fps, 3d or not. Hell it's been there since 1.2. The difference being that 1.4 can carry 4096

We've been fed this novelty since talkies were introduced. Okay, take Debbie to the movies and a shake after ... keep the paper glasses on a shelf until you go to college.

How about a little maturation here?

Get rid of the silly glasses and we'll talk. 'Till then, 3D is a marketing Avatar.

    Disclaimer: I wear glasses. :)
