My reiever is obviously DTS so is my dvd and dvd player but i can't get the audio to play. I have digital/optical hook ups. Tried all the parameters. I'm guessing it is something simple but can't get it figured out. That is where you guys come in. My other question is "Is dts the optimum 5.1ch format next to dts-es?" If not what is?
Thank you

Sometimes in the DVD player menu DTS needs to be selected. I dont know why they do this but I had the same problem with Hitachi. Also you may have PCM output selected.Graham

Go to the menu on your DVD player and make sure the output is selected as "bitstream".
I'm not sure if the Denon will auto recognize the best signal while the DVD player is first started-up but you will want to read up on this and make sure that your input assignment for DVD audio in matches the cable you are using (dig coax) and that you have selected Auto detect (Onkyo receiver's have this feature you can program) if the Denon doesn't do it automatically. You may have a analog input selected right now and you are using digital input.
If a movie has both DTS and DD options, from the main menu at the start of the movie I usually go with the DTS selection because it runs a little "hotter" than DD when watching the movie. -
I found that when my DVD player setting was set to multi-channel it would not play properly. My DVD has to be set to 2-channel and when I did that the sound opened up coinciderably. Also make sure the reciever is set to auto detect for the diff. signal to be processed also.

Dave,
Are you sure you didn't have dynamic compression on when set to multichannel?Graham -
I forgot to program my new dvd player. My other dvd was 5 yrs old. I had forgoten Sony's factory default was set to 2ch output.
I feel like an idiot but at least nothing is broke and it didn't cost me anymore money.

No, the DVD manual says to set the DVD player to 2-channel and not mulit-channel when using a reciever with decoder. The sound seemed alittle flat and lacking until I reviewed the manual and made the change.

Am I reading it right?
DVD Manual quote
Multi-channel:
when 3 or more speakers are connected.
*speaker presence and size
*delay time *channel balance

2-channel
when 2 speakers or an amplifier with Dolby Pro Logic decoder is connected.
Does setting the player to 2-channel seem right? I seemed to think that when I changed it to 2-channel the sound opened up. Is this something that is common to all players, I use a fiber optic cable for the audio. I am not sure how I could even hook-up speakers to the player without an amp or reciever, it's a 5-disc player only.
